London underground social?

Jump to: Newest in thread

I had a weird dream last night, and I wondered if it might actually be feasible?

I dreamt that a load of fabbers decided to have a social, in London, on the Underground... is it possible?

I haven't used the Underground much, apart from for a couple of months in 2012, but from memory I'm pretty sure it could be done... just people hopping on and off when and where it suits them, and a hardcore of nutters staying on to ride round and round chatting to those that turn up.

So, is it do-able? And, maybe more to the point, would you partake?

Circle line social? It might work but would need planning - letting people know which train and carriages etc

Why would you try to have a social somewhere noisy, dirty, and impossible to locate!

Just cost £13 a day, unlimited travel... No drinks or smoking break, can have good chat with people... We can sing, dance sounds fun hehe..

on the road to nowhere in particular

A nightmare logistically for people to meet the right train

The circle line doesn’t actually run in a circle anymore either. At busy times it would not be a comfortable experience for anyone travelling.

It does sound like a fun idea though and could work for a smaller group

Planning isn't an issue, I'm pretty good at that, now that I've "vocalised" this my mind is already full of ideas, it just seemed such fun in my dream lol.

I'm thinking of a weekend, to avoid the commuters, plus a text based comms system giving locations etc, although on the right route if anyone missed it they'd just have to go the other way and meet up wouldn't they?

Not the most ideal of social locations I will grant you, but it could be a giggle, where's your spirit of adventure mun!

We should all meet outside, let's say in kings cross station and then head inside one of the line, let go from one end of the line to other end... Weekend is best as we have night tube in more lines...

I am in for this... I can get popcorn

Weekend is not necessarily less busy. Especially in the central area and at mainline stations

So long as you don't mind a walk to pick it up again (Edgware road), the circle line could be a contender for "round and round" lol

No one would have anyway of knowing which train it was. They don't run to a a timetable like an overland train

Plus you are ignoring the large scale chaos that could potentially be caused by a large group of people talking to each on the tube!

I could iron out the kinks, its doable, I'm sure of it, although the logistics from our end would need to be planned well in advance, its a bit more involved when you add on the fact that we are over 170 miles and 3 hours away lol!

Trust me, as someine that lived in London for several years and is still a regular underground user it would be pretty much impossible to coordinate people to meet in the same train.

Bloody awful place to hold a social. It's dirty, dusty, oily and full of people hurrying to get somewhere.

It is doable if we meet outside the tube station and then jump in... Just need to fix a time to meet outside the station May be at a pub close by..

Chorley

I can see it’s a nice idea but can’t see it working in practice?

Noisy and claustrophobic for one

There’d be lots of ‘muggles’ and kids around so conversation would have to be restricted and muted

No food or drink available, no bar area to chat to others (the most social place in any pub or club)

And paying to constantly travel when you’re only there to speak to a few people anyway?

I think perhaps a nicer idea would be an overland train (with buffet carriage) that went through a really beautiful route (like the Lake District perhaps?)

A train ride with a stop at a pretty pub for dinner. Now that i’d Like!

Wouldn't that incur extra costs tho?

Better idea would be to meet on the platform, no need to go outside, just have a recognisable feature that would make you stand out (birthday balloon?) so everyone could latch on. Arrange to be at a certain station every hour (dependent on route travel time).?

Now, that's more like it, a little negativity but with an positive alternative thrown in, that does sound nice.

Too packed, too noisy and not practical. I'm a Londoner born and bred and avoid the underground like the plague.

Oh bugger, I try to inject a little Welsh savior-faire into that there grey, dull, lifeless London, and you all shoot me down, where's your romance, your spark, your bleedin' cock-er-ney "blitz" spirit mun?

I think you all need to be cwtched 'til your ears pop!
