Is this the best program ever? Just been watching the one about Amanda who had a horrendous cycling accident and is wherlchair bound now. She is the most incredible woman & the DIY SOS team did an incredible job. Makes me so proud to be British, the people doing this are incredible.

So emotionally manipulative. I bawled all the way through.

My favourite programme ever. I get fierce abuse from friends over it lol.

DIY and an emotional backstory. It's like x factor but with drills

Spot on! But the best bit is a bunch of ordinary people fixing a key aspect of someone’s life.

Watching DIY SOS is such a feelgood programme. Yes, I’m weeping half the time, but it is lovely to see people who need help actually getting it & in spades!

after all the crap we have to listen to/ see on Social Media, actually having real human beings doing something really nice for someone else is incredible uplifting

I never miss any episode.

It's one of those programmes that really touch the soul and tug the heartstrings but always in a good way!

Never mawkish or syrupy, but even after all the years it has been shown, it still demonstrates just how mankind can help others in need.

Don't mind saying it generates a lump in the throat each time, sometimes even a few tears, but all in a positive way.

And it always brings a tear to my eye

It's great what they do

I got asked to do the show once. (I couldn't sadly).

But it is true, they just want tradesmen to help. You get a brief 'who it's for' and an application if you can join them in the days.

I think it's commendable from the tv show and all the people involved. If only it could extend from entertainment eh?

With so much TV being utter shite and the worship of idiots it’s great to have a programme that does some good.

It's a great program and I used to watch it all the time.

The only thing that irks me is, would all these trades people etc be doing it if it wasn't a tv program? If they were approached by a charity to help do that sort of thing, would they do it?

If so why would we need a tv program to do it? Why are the family that live up the road from me having to raise money to alter their house to accommodate their disabled child? Why are local trades not jumping in to help out?

I'm sure most people would if they had a spare day or two. No one actually asks tho.

When we go into a house to do work, if you can see that people are either struggling, really old or having a hard time we usually do the work for free.

We don't tell them but when they come to pay we refuse. They usually force a packet of biscuits on us or something

I said something similar above. I'm not blowing my own trumpet here, but the last two Christmas I've done jobs for people and not charged. (They were people I did know and not strangers, but )I know how much it meant to them. Although it's a couple of days work, it didn't cost me anything, but my time.

A conscious decision and I'll di it again this year, pay it forward and all that shite.

That's very nice of you but it's rare. After all most trades are in business to make money and don't really have the time to spare.

Well aren’t you a ray of sunshine!

Sweeping statement of the day - I know of trades people who have done stuff for free and who have given up paid work to do DIY SOS, and no they didn’t appear on telly as they were grafting away in the background.

when my elderly neighbour lost part of her fence i and a neighbour sorted it, you don't need too much organising to help someone..

maybe someone who knows the plight of that family may know a local builder or 2 or could even put up a poster in a local cafe to try and get something moving for them..?

Great program! Always get a lump in my throat with the back story’s.

What it really brings home to me what some people have to deal with on a daily basis makes any problems I might seem really trivial

They are publicly raising money within the local community but as far as I know no one has come forward to help without payment? Maybe they have but want to remain anonymous about it so not to be seen as a soft touch? Perhaps waiting for them to raise the money for materials?

The great thing about DIY SOS, beyond the immediate help it gives people & the feelgood factor for those of us who watched it, is raising the awareness that ordinary people can help others in life changing ways.

It is clear from the comments on this thread that some don’t like Nick Nowles, so what as it is kid of irrelevant, equally they can’t fix everyone’s problems, but if watching the programme makes one person be more charitable then it is a success.

It would be nice to see more positive things on TV, fed up being spoon fed misery all the time. People generally believe things are worse than they are now, for instance the majority of people asked how much of Britain is concreted over (built on) said 47%, when in fact it is only 5%. Britain is still a green and pleasant land and it is still full of lovely people (mostly)
