I was just wondering how many of us actually update our CV regularly. I had realised it had been over a year since my last update, and that I had changed jobs.
Normally I update every 6 months, just within any relevant role changes or tweak the wording or design.

During a spell of unemployment around five years ago I was sent to a specialist to go over my CV. We had an interesting discussion bullet marks. He insistyed they work, while I'd actually read "The Quantitave Dispaly of Visual Information" by Edward R. Tufte, who said they're just dirty marks on a page and what's the pont of indenting a list, only to then fill in the space? A list is a list is a list and nothing sparates like clear space. But on and on he went, blah blah blah, science doesn't know everything, I worked at HMV, etc. People do fall in love with their wingdings.
He then cited scientific research, which scanned recruiters' eyes as they read CVs. It showed that they really only read the top and bottom bits of a CV, quickly running their eyes over the rest. I suggested maybe it was because of all the bullet marks in the middle. How we laughed. |

Never needed one for a long time.
I do read them though. ones that are too well crafted we bin. It makes people seem like the school swat. We prefer a more down to earth c.v. perhaps something humorous in there. |

Iceland, but Aldi is closer.. |
I hadn't updated mine in years up until a few months ago when I started looking for a new job..
Can't have done a bad job of it, I have got interviews for all the jobs I've applied for.
All two of them but its still a 100% success rate. |
