Has there ever been a year when taxi’s aren’t double fare on New Year’s Eve?
This is not a new thing OP! For as long as I can remember it’s been double fare and hard to get a taxi if you haven’t prebooked |

We're both suffering with this blooming horrible virus that's going round so no taxi required here.
It's useful information though, I would have thought to pre-book but it wouldn't have occured to me that it would be double. |

Being in this line of transport it is not always an easy way to earn a living... but can't see why taxis charge time and a half after midnight (every night) and double on bank holidays.
The cost to run is still the same, just they are greedy fuckers wanting to fleece people out of their hard earned cash at Christmas and New year especially |

Supply and demand
Perhaps you could ask the same for restaurants that charge £50 a head for a roast dinner on Christmas Day they normally charge a tenner for ?? .. because they can !!
Don’t like it don’t use it |

It’s fare and a half round here, we don’t mind paying more after all everyone that works (not necessarily New Year’s Eve day time) Christmas and New Years and bank holidays would want more money as no one really wants to work them x |

Er yes I can read and was making a general statement for all that if you don’t like something don’t use it
Personally think if anyone giving up Bank hols and unsociable hours to provide any sort of service should charge more and I have absolutely no issue paying for it especially licenced taxi drivers so I get home safely !!

Been like that for years hence why it's not as good over Crimbo anymore.
Who wants a £20 ride turning into £40 then there's back so ya £80 sovs into just taxis so many many people stay local to home or visit friends and probably spend the £80 on booze... |

I was a Taxi driver for years in Salford ..had many argument about it being double fare..firstly people did not realise that we had to pay double radio rent for Christmas and new year to the taxi firm owner ..they say it to cover their staff in the office (radio and phone operators) double wages..but to stop the conversation with them I just asked them would you work for your normal rate of pay on Christmas day or new years eve and day..that usually shut them up |

they always have been as far as i can remember back...and why shouldn't they? Given the margins they have to work with now, i'd hardly call it excessive or greedy, they're a business, not a charity. |
