Now is the time of year when we need to start winter pruning some of our climbers; roses, wisteria, vine etc. It's a pain in the arse so here's a quick tip to make it a little easier.
Instead of using string or wire try using cable ties instead. They're more durable than string (important with scandent climbers like roses), quicker and easier to tie than both string and wire (especially when wearing gloves), unlike wire they can be cut with secateurs so there's no need to carry around an extra pair of snips and their flat design means they won't cut into stems.
And watch yourself on those pesky ladders. |

"I bought Rapstraps, the type of cable ties I saw on Dragons Den once. Very handy as super adjustable with minimal wastage"
I haven't come across them, i'll have to check them out, thanks. |

"When should I cut back my holly tree? I needs feet cut off the top and a good metre from the diameter."
For heavy pruning i'd do it now in dormancy and definitely before new growth begins. |

My tip for tying in is to always make sure the rope goes through both harness loops, to use a stopper knot and to get your belay bunny to check your knot (you should always check their belay at the same time).
Well, the OP did mention climbers. |

Do you have a belay bunny and do they have to be female? I only ask as i'd like to apply for the position - an hour spent staring at your arse would be well worth the inevitable stiff neck (though i doubt that would be the only thing that gets stiff). |
