The hype, the expectation, the let down, the realisation it's another year gone so quickly. I find it quite a lonely night to be honest if single and treat it as a normal day now. I think it's very overrated but there always seems a pressure to mark it somehow. Am I being a party pooper maybe? |

No. It's just another night. With selfish folk setting off fireworks, mobile phone networks crashing, and bog standard pubs charging for entry just because there are sausage rolls on the bar!
Give me an early night everytime!

Yeah it's shit. I get quite low after new year, it's a big downer after the build up to Christmas and the long wait until summer.
As for the night itself, too many people out, massive queues at the bar, paying and tickets to get into places you don't normally have to pay for, extortionate taxis, long taxi waits. It's just a total disappointment usually.
Oh and fireworks, wow, how amazing, fireworks again.
I'm staying in |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
It can be difficult for many, not just you. It's just a change of numbers.
There is a lot of hype, a lot of alcohol, a lot of expectation and when you don't have someone to share that with or don't feel the need to join in you are on the outside of it all. There's nothing wrong with that. Enjoy the day your way.
Like birthdays, I see it as having survived another year. I spend it with the same group of people most years but as the only single person without children I am outside of what they are celebrating.
Some years they are all away and I am on my own and that's fine too. I spent one such year here on the forum and it was lovely. There weren't many of us around but enough to have a little bit of chatter.
I hope you have a good night, whatever you choose to do. |

I turn down all invites and nestle in on NYE. If I have a bonkee they’d be welcome to bonk but I’m not up for the going out raging type NYE.
It’s my birthday on the 2nd too so it’s a funny time for me. |

"I always get upset new year eve .Always work it and make sure I'm busy at midnight "
I have a tendency to get emotional at midnight... Feck knows why but it just happens... And as I am usually pissed it seems even worse than it would do if I wasn't... But I do it in private and nobody sees so I don't really care |

I tend to find the day reflecting on the year thats gone and all that's happened. Decide which things to leave behind and which to carry forward.
I spend the night with friends greeting the new year and new possibilities. |

Sometimes wish I was having sex with a loved one at midnight wishing him a happy New year and whispering those 3 little words .But he's not here as he's in heaven .So will stay busy |

"Mom died on nye makes it extra tough
Still enjoy it though but she’d a tear when Big Ben fires up"
Aww I'm sorry.
One thing I always make sure I mark the moment at midnight by doing something strong and positive, as I feel it helps set the tone for the year.
Like I want to be in the middle of exercising, and have to be doing it during the point it crosses into new year at midnight.
I am going to be doing a workout tonight during the moment it rings in, and use it as a springboard, even tho I have flu #dont care!
Happy new year everyone x

Meh ....
It's just another day.
People need something to look forward to - or an excuse for a party - it's all good.
I don't need an excuse - I prefer unexpected parties on a Tuesday night - the ones where all your muscles hurt the next day and you can't wipe the smile off your face at work
All this pressure to have fun is going to be a big let down for most.
I wish I had someone to kiss me at midnight but I'll probably be asleep lol.

I spent the millennium eve in London, saw the river of fire etc.
That was good. Other years, small house parties with friends, some years just go to bed.
I'm against compulsory fun.
I can stay up until midnight drinking any day.

I'm a bit meh about it really, last year we went to London for the day and saw a show, that was really nice. Trying to book a hotel to go next New year and the rooms aren't on sale yet it seems.

Over-rated, over-priced and the fireworks terrify my dog.
I guess it would be different if i had friends/family to celebrate with, but usually it's just another night. |

At least NYE can be fairly easily ignored. You can have a normal day and evening, then go to bed early.
For those who dislike Christmas its much harder if not impossible to ignore. |

I preferred it in days gone by before friends started having kids and settling down when we'd either be at some huge clubbing event or a decent house party with 30 odd people. I will be out in York with friends tonight though, I live in walking distance of town so the cost of taxis isn't an issue |

I'm not a fan of going out somewhere on NYE. Generic places charge to get in, are overfilled so getting to the bar is a ball ache, and generally town is occupied by idiots who had way too many pre drinks!
I prefer to spend it in the warm, with family or friends at a house party. Board or Card games. Just my preference |

It would be one of the best nights out if we could get a sitter , which we can’t .
All the new year snogs , gropes and general naughtiness would be so horny if everyone wasn’t so pissed . Which of course they will be .....
And the fireworks , the glorious fireworks which will light up the sky , and wake all the fucking dogs up which will be barking into the early hours....
Yeah I’m with the op on this one ...... |

I hate NYE spent too many on my own years ago, while my ex was partying. Last year's NYE was the best ever as I spent it chatting to my FWB but he didn't even remember chatting to me when he ended our arrangement a couple of days later and said he'd been working that night. So it's back to fuck off NYE for me this year XXX |

I dont hate it,but think its over rated now tbh.
More like people feel they should be out celebrating and posting about how much fun they are having.
I'm quite happy been at home,in my pjs with Jack and the cats tonight.
Lets all celebrate which ever way makes us happy.

"Does anyone else hate the whinging about Christmas and NYE?
Sometimes the FAB forum feels more like the Daily Mail comments section."
We love it! It's a day off work and so is the next day, clubs, house parties, whatever, we thoroughly enjoy it. |

I'm celebrating tonight. I'm getting dressed up and going out to dinner. Then calling in a local pub to share drinks with folk and then home for a bottle of champagne with my name on it.
I'm celebrating surviving a truly annus horribilus and thanking my lucky stars I'm still here |

I don't feel any pressure to celebrate it now I'm older. When I was younger, there was a big hype about it, though.
I wouldn't pay the rip off taxi fares, if I wanted to go out, anyway.
Also, I rarely go out through Winter, nowadays.
It's Spring & Summer when I want to get out. |

I feel some sadness and loneliness on this thread.. makes me sad.
I also hate it, wasn’t a fan when married and even less now I’m single.
Usually I would be in bed with the duvet over my head.
This year I’m heading out and spending it at my 2 sons, ones cooking so I see the new year in with those 2 special people.
