It's absolutely bucketing down out there and all I can think of is the horses' fields turning to mush and endless weeks sloshing about in the mud and spending hours scraping it off every time you want to ride...
Oh I hate a wet winter! !!

This is the same conversation I have with my mum literally everyday of every winter. It's amazing how having horses makes us obsessed with the weather whatever the weather lol |

It does, all I can think about is the land, its so crap in the SE too, all clay, whereas I had fabulous free draining land in the Cotswolds and enough of it! |

Chucking it down here too, but at least its daylight now. Also horse problems. I was supposed to meet an equine vet but she's been called out to fondle a horse or something. I hope she washes her hands.... |

I have a hose under cover by my front door. When I come back from the horse I hose my boots down and put them in the boot rack (thanks Grandad) to dry.
I hate this time of year. I spent ages wandering round looking for a shoe yesterday that fell off in the field that farrier only put on before Xmas. Never seem to find them. |

Clammy wellies - that's another thing I hate, they never seem to dry properly inside left at the yard! |

Stuff them with paper to dry then microwave your Welly socks before you put them on.
Bit of a faff though when you just need to get out. |

No she has a large enclosure with a 10x8 shed for her sheltered area. She’s a large bunny. Last weighed in at over 8kg. |

"Same problem gor me as you OP. Mine is just over a very bad case of mud fever too
Oh bugger! Sudocrem at night and pig oil for the field for you then!"
I didn’t know you could use sudocrem. Makes sense as I use it on my dog when he has it.

I’ve been using neem oil it’s had pretty spectacular results. Not cheap though but is anything not expensive when it comes to the equine world??? |

It's marvellous - you need to keep it from drying out overnight as well as killing the bugs and sudocrem does that really well. I bandage them too if they are bad, with nappy roll. |

Can't remember if I've tried that, might do so next time. Fingers crossed ours are OK so far but one gets really bad sulcus infections.

Used to live in Herefordshire where the heavy clay would turn to a Somme like consistency when churned up by horses, lost count of how many times I lost wellies turning horses out. January was always the worst month. Many dark mornings spent stood in the mud in socks thinking - why the f*ck am I doing this!
And for all things mud fever, you can’t beat Conotrane. |

i remember taking a horse for a ride in heavy rain and thick mud - a large deep hole had formed but obviously out of sight under the sludge - the horses front left leg went in and he went to the side - i went with - i was really worried about his leg as he had cut the side of his face as well - we walked back clean on one side and completely muddied on the other - did look funny and the yard owner took a pic to take the piss out of us -- he was shaken but ok |
