I don't get why being alone at christmas, should be any different to any other time?? I am not a believer in any religion...the same as most people that "celebrate" it, so why should christmas make a flaming difference? Apart from the fact I cannot get away from all the nonsense!! Is starting to really piss me off now tbh....can ya tell?? |

Christmas is nothing to do with christian belief to the majority anymore and instead is now the worship of commercialism, add this to the forced bon hommé we expected to have, no wonder it can get people down.
You're not in your own, it's just we're not allowed to see it for what it is and say so! |

I think most people grew up being forced to spend time with family and people they barely knew let alone liked tbh. Don't get me wrong, I am single but I like being on my own...I also love seeing my family....I don't need an excuse to do so, nor the present buying or the turkey eating. I hate that it is forced in my face and that makes me angry n makes me sound like I am bitter avout being on my own, when I am no more alone than any other day. Also, alone doesn't always mean lonely, I think I would probably feel lonelier in a room full of people that don't care if they see me or not...sorry, yes, am still feeling ranty lol |

I’ve i known both sides of the argument I’ve been alone at Christmas and been fine other times I’ve been alone and felt awful and in the same breath I’ve been round Family houses where I’ve felt more ignored and alone so I get it is a day like any other but it’s what you make of it that counts

Please don't be on your own bla bla bla.
Today I feel loved, more loved than I have in a long time. I do not need to be in a room full of people to know that. I am happy in my own company because for the first time in a long time I have some sparkle. I would sooner alone with my sparkle than in the company of someone who tarnished my shine. Christmas is a time to feel loved. This year I love myself.
Screw those ideals. I know so many who are spending the day with loads of people and they aren't happy, not deep down inside

It's a load of shit haha .. you are who you are with out all the fakeness at Christmas .. people talking to You, hugging you etc, who at the best of times don't give you the time of the day. Sometimes your own space is a good thing and should enjoy it. |

I was saying the same to Ads last night, we haven’t got our kids this year and this is a first for me and I was crying over all the perfect adverts with the best Christmas etc, I know it’s all nonsense but doesn’t help.

I agree with this comment. The idea is to make it what you want and don't feel obliged to treat it as society expects.
We've got kids now so I have a different outlook, it's about the kids and I have a new love for Christmas after seeing the joy and excitement in their faces. |

I think the reason some people find Christmas hard been alone is because a lot of the friends they have that they social with are away with their family and the bars , pubs that they go to may be closed or their friends aren't there because they are with their family. At the end of the day we get through it as best we can. |

Don't let it make you feel like you've gotta get all christmassy, do what you want to do...we don't do much else here other than a small gift or two and a fairly normal dinner..tree up but nothing else. No big pointless spends on food or decs or presents and all that nonsense, no bells and whistles, just my sister here staying but she does that a bit anyhow so there's nothing unusual in that. you really don't need to treat it like some big hoo haa that the shops and television will have you believe that you need too it costs about 50 quid to do Christmas and no more faffing about than any other dinner of you keep it low key.
If you just want to ignore it and let it pass you can do that too..don't that several times over he years when I've just not been in that Christmas mood.
On the whole it's just a day that the shops wring to death to get people to spend..and people being sheep, do, in their droves.
You however are not a sheep don't feel like you need to act like one |

I came from an abusive family so Christmas to me means a time where we all have to pretend we are getting on and love each other.
It’s a crock of shit that you have to get on with your family. No one should make you feel like you need to do anything. I’ve a friend that chooses to be on her own on Christmas Day. I’m guessing it’s due to similar issues as mine.
Looking forward to Jaunuary when it’s all over and no one cares who you get on with. |

All christmas does to me is remind me how much smaller my family is now. It’s got it’s pro’s and con’s, but for the most part it’s just a reason to see the family who are normally “too busy” to see you throughout the remaining 364 days of the year |
