That world has circa 2071 Billionaires with a combined wealth of $7.75 trillions.
If those in that club, who have inexcess of $10b, were to donate $75m each to the world bank as part of the drive to make poverty history campaign over 500m people would benefit in assisting with the first steps to a decent standard of living. To put that into context the equivalent contribution from someone working in the uk the living wage would be £1.76.
You may say I am a dreamer but I am not the only one. |

What are the first steps to a decent standard of living that you refer to? You may consider rewriting your post in a way that makes sense or at least better reading! |

The first steps are shelter clean water sufficient food and access to preventative health care. I am happy with the syntax but always open to constructive advice! |

"Do you mean by creating jobs and bringing rent prices down?
The Forbes report described poverty as those surviving on $5 a day or less"
Not sure but I imagine $5 a day buys a lot in some places in the world and similarly some people live quite happily without the need of cash. I watched Moana and they only needed coconuts and fish! |

Having worked all over the world I would agree the $5 does by a lot in parts of the globe. But even then it’s just survival with little emphasis on preventative care and support. I have seen this first hand in parts of SA. My point is those with oodles of money can, with little discomfort, can effect real change. Perhaps you disagree? |

I imagine, where it’s needed, huge amounts of cash can make a significant difference to lives. My point is, and I neither know the statistics nor regions to highlight, your OP gave little in the way of information and I would have had to search for how many $10bn + there were then calculate the value of $75 m each, then understand the size of the problem, then the effect of whatever value the $75 million each would have on the 500 million you chose to reference then ascertain whether that value would significantly change those lives. Far more questions than answers.... but I guess you made me, at least, think.... and, possibly, that was your aim? |

Bill Gates gives massive amounts of money to help people through his foundation, around 30 billion so far I believe. That's equivalent to 400 of your 2071 billionaires. He also has another foundation that encourages billionaires to donate large sums of money to help. So far about 85 billionaires have signed up.
While giving this amount of money will have been of massive benefit to millions of people, money alone will not drag them all out of poverty.
A lot of these countries need radical reform to really make a difference which unfortunately is very unlikely.

My point is that so few people with so little personal loss can make a significant difference to those at The poverty end of the scale. The report I quoted from is the Forbes Billionaire List published in the economist in 2017.
I will post the link. |
