"Happy winters Solstice to you all .
As from today the days begin to get longer and the shoots of spring begin to show .
Happy Solstice chums "
I've still got the remnants of summer. There's a solitary rose bud blooming on my shrub. How ridiculous.
Summer's round the corner |

But no BBC coverage today which I guess is because the celebrations at Stonehenge are tomorrow morning. I presume this is to celebrate the suns return at the end of the longest night rather than the shortest day. |

Who are we going to sacrifice?
I think it was an omen last night, the Robins, a symbol of winter and blood, driving out the red devils |

Happy Solstice everyone. It's officially the first day of winter according to the meteorological calendar but we'll start noticing more daylight soon. Blink, and it will be spring! |

I thought the lack of coverage on the Beeb was strange so checked English Heritage's Stonehenge website. Unfortunately she could have a long wait as Monument Feild doesn't open for the revellers till around 7:45am tomorrow. |

It's early this year but I'm pretty sure today is the longest night.
The mornings have a habit of getting later quite a while past the solstice |

And the same to you OP. Today is my favourite date in Dec, knowing that days will be getting longer again and that it won't be long til spring. That said in balmy Devon I still have lots of flowers out in the garden so it's not that wintry here. |
