I hate this time of year.

If youre a good Christian who embraces their faith then I wish you well.

For the rest,Christmas is like this site.

Mostly full of fake people with false bon viveur inflicting their "amazing" lives on the rest of us.

Roll on January.Roll on normality.

Eat-me date anyone?

More honest than sad - how many people truly enjoy Christmas? I’ve ‘opted out’ of it for a few years & of all the people who started off telling me ‘you can’t do that’, most of them now say ‘I’m so jealous’

I find nothing enjoyable about Christmas - in fact I find it quite inconvenient and, as always, will be very happy when it’s done!

... and I don’t need to ‘feel better soon’ because I’m perfectly happy & healthy!

OP, keep breathing, it’s nearly done!

I find the atmosphere really false & forced - and having worked in pubs & hotels for years, I know how much the staff are hating it too!! I much prefer going out with my friends in any of the other 48 weeks of the year than at any time in December. New Year celebrations are a daytime event on New Years Day, when you can get into pubs, bars & restaurants without fighting your way through crowds!!

Agree with both your posts.

For me I opted out numerous years ago because it's nothing like I remember growing up no matter how much I tried to make it so. Now people just see it as an excuse for constant over indulgence and what's worse for me is people rush towards it but then want it all over with by 3pm after the dinner.

For me Christmas should start to start around dinner time Christmas Eve and be a week's event of family enjoyment and togetherness.

I get you op, have done for years..

Went to town today for a normal couple of bits and it's like zombie hoardes out there, glazed eyed zombies wondering about buying this and that, pawing at tat they don't need or probably really want..shit that will be in some cupboard someplace in a month forever forgotten, mounds of toys and plastic junk and shit to heap on their children that we've made from oil dug from out of the planet at huge cost to the environment...literally tons or more of which will be forgotten about or broken or in a charity shop or land fill by the time this all comes around again next year and it's something else that's a 'must have' for Christmas..it's almost all fakery and chintz to encourage people to spend like the apocalypse is coming. And the laugh is...they do! In droves!

I hate all the pics on Facebook of a trillion presents under the tree. Knobs trying to outdo each other every fucking year then whining about being in debt.

Xmas is what you make it. I like it but I avoid the shite bits.

Folk spend hundreds and hundreds on it, more sometimes....I really don't get it...oh, kids..folk use them as an excuse don't they..that's the main one i hear

There is some merit in the notion that Christmas is pants and that it has become a materlistic gang fuck. Walking home from the station last evening ( my) town resembled a scene from a game of thrones including the Christmas clad revellers seemingly enjoying the Yule tide. Dispersed in all the merriment I counted four beggars / rough sleepers who were invisible to the revellers.

I spoke to one of those huddled up in a plethora of worn and soiled blankets. He was 28 served his country in Afghanistan and had trouble with civilian life and what he saw serving his country.

I gave him £50 asked him to get some food or shelter for the night.

He was ultra polite, coherent and thankful. We shook hands and I walked away with a partially appeased conscience to the dulcet tones of Noddy Holder espousing everyone was having fun. Perhaps not all.

Christmas in its present form is not at all great, I dislike it for personal reasons, loosing my mum at Christmas for one. Buts it what we have let it become, we should just draw a line and stop pandering to all this commercialism. As the message before mine says think about some other people and the true reason for Christmas. Advent calenders with sex toys was the pits as far as I am concerned

I don't believe in Santa, Jesus or the ridiculous amounts of money spent on tat.

But I do believe in having a nice meal with my family and catching up with people I haven't seen for ages for Christmas drinks

I don't spend stupid amounts of money on presents and I don't want any ridiculous amounts of money spent on me.

I'll buy my own stuff in the sales with the money I saved on buying tat for other people

Get rid of your TV and don't go in any shops and then you will barely know Christmas is coming.

Well done you. If there were more people who thought that way, it would be a much nicer world to live in.

I donate £25 to a local charity each year in lieu of buying & posting cards but you have just inspired me to go & do something a little more practical this year too x

Not really I have a good life and as I say my conscience was lightly appeased in doing what I did. It’s a Catholic thing.

We wouldn't say sad, maybe he's just being realistic.

Christmas can be an extremely difficult time of year for many people, for many varying reasons, be it emotional or financial or any other valid reason.

There is nothing wrong with looking ahead to January.

"Really quite a sad post hope you feel better soon x "

All the OPs posts seem to be moaning or criticising something. Which is a shame.

Personally, I like Christmas because it's family time, nothing to do with religion or anything.

I enjoy buying or making gifts for loved ones and seeing the joy when they open them. It's not the money that matters, it's the thought that goes into the gift.

I give to charities all year round, and work with the homeless and vulnerable.

... But for people who don’t have family to spend time with or loved ones to share gifts with, the very reasons you like it are exactly the reasons that others dread it, or choose to opt out of it.

Christmas happens whether we want it to or not. For those of us who can’t celebrate it the way you do, we all have our own way of making it as bearable as we can.
