I've just been having a conversation with a friend, about our preferred brand of tea.
And it got me thinking...
Do you favour one brand? Why?
Do you use any brand? Or just whatever is available. Can you taste the difference?
Teapot or mug?
And why do we drink tea in times of crisis or major events?

"I do like a Yorkshire tea the best, twinings is also good
As for the crisis thing, sugary tea is apparently very good for shock"
Tea seems to be so important to the nation, it was considered to be an essential item worth rationing during WW2 |

Iceland, but Aldi is closer.. |
Cannot abide tea with milk..
Although I cannot drink coffee with milk either..
I do however like m&s mint tea, it's about the only mint tea that actually tastes like that served in the middle east. |

Brand tetley or twinings
"

"
Interesting question. I think it’s because we need comfort, something known to us giving a sense of certainty and we may have memories of feeling safe when we drank tea. |

Yorkshire for me, I like a teapot now and again, with obligatory trimmings (biscuits and cake). Twinnings earl grey now and then too. A morning breakfast teapot escapade is a treat.
In terms of crisis management, it may help with the sit down/reflection process. |

Usually a Ceylon orange pekoe or an Assam. I use Jeeves and Jericho for my teas or, Bluebird for something a bit different
I’m a fussy tea obsessed git "

Do you prefer a copper or porcelain pot for your mint tea to brew in? |

Twinnings English breakfast.
I can always taste the difference, at home it’s just the one cup bag style but we have a regular tea place that do it properly with loose leaves in a glorious stainless teapot |

Yorkshire for me. Anything else and I have two tea bags.
Can drink it any time of the day, with any snack or food choice.
Tea became a bit of a social thing in the office so now I try and mix things up with herbal teas and the like but it’s not the same |

"And why do we drink tea in times of crisis or major events?"
..partly, I think it's about the 'act' of making a brew, to pause under pressure, a moment to steady the ship, to counter nervousness, to reflect and ponder the next move without jumping in feet first...on the other hand, it might just be that tea wets the whistle!! |

I think that the actual act of making a pot of tea can be a ritual, or a comforting action.. |

I love tea and usually use PG tips as I like the flavour the most.
Tea has a range of chemicals within it, including caffeine. Caffeine, at a time of crisis, may improve your clarity of thought, possibly be more energised. Tea also has properties that help you to relax - unlike coffee. I think it's the calming down effects of tea that are probably the most valuable, simultaneously with getting a clearer focus on something - maybe giving you an aha moment, where you are more able to take something in your stride.
There are many natural compounds in tea and it's possibly the specific mix of them that works particularly well for people, even if undivided ones are also beneficial.

I am a staunch fan of golden flowery orange pekoe Darjeeling, or a first flush. There’s a rather delightful tea shop in the undercover market in Bath. I love going there and spending a little bit on some decent loose tea |

There’s a good one in Oxfords undercover market too - Cardews. Show me your tea collection sometime and I’ll show you mine |

As long as it's strong and it isn't overpowered with milk, most of the teas out there are great.
I do have a lovely new glass teapot with a strainer which I use for Assam. It's the best for flavour in my opinion |
