Hi, Just thinking of downsizing and wondered about moving into a static caravan on a residential site, anyone have any comments (good or bad) most site's are for 55+ age group as thats a plus. Billy. |

Only if you like to have lavender and plastic gnomes in your garden.....
Wouldn't it be nicer to live on a narrow boat? |

They are expensive in the long run as you have to buy the caravan/home in the first place....and they are not cheap for what they are.
They also only have a short life...then add to that you have to pay ground rent every year that could be as much as 5 grand per year.
They are far from a sound investment imo |

 Family friends lived in one for many years without any problems, until the site was sold. The site owners make or break the experience & that's something the residents have no input with. New owners made everyone's lives hell it seemed  I'd never touch one given their experiences. |

Do lots of proper research. For some it's great, others not so.
Think about the age of the van also. A site owner can ask you to remove it at any point should they consider it no longer in keeping with the rest of the site! |

As said find a site with good management .ilived on my site 4 years love it buy a van a few years old and redesign it mine is more like a flat in side new kitchen put full size bath in good shag pad |

We have had a static holiday home for the past 8 years, we love it. However we came to the realisation, the amount we initially paid 20k and the ground rent 4k a year we would have been as well buying a little bungalow in the same area and it would be an investment that would retain its value rather than one that looses value.
Our plan now is to do just that, next will be our last year having the static and we will buy a place to eventually retire to.
From a financial point of view I wouldn't buy a park home. If you want any advice feel free to message.
