HIV ring

Just saw an interesting piece on the big black cock about HIV rings being trialled in Malawi where there are 7,000 new HIV infections a week. It's for women whose partners won't use condoms and they put it in their flange. The ring contains anti-HIV medicine and lasts a month before it needs to be changed, the man can't feel it.

The bad news is that it's only appears to work on 1/3 cases and costs $7 in a country where average annual income is less than $200.

Interesting idea though...

Well this kind of sums up the problem in places like Malawi I guess . They have hiv , won’t wear condoms , and are seemingly happy to keep spreading it .

So they come up with a solution which costs half the annual salary a year , is only effective in a third of cases , and we in the west are supposed to help fund it !

Are these people just plain stupid or what ?

If ever there was an example of nature naturally ing out the idiots then surely this is it .

Leave them to it ......

I was reading about this earlier. It's been trialled on teens in USA who apparently reported that the male could feel it but that it enhanced pleasure.

It's interesting that there's this and the i. condom (which isn't a condom but a ring) being developed.

The HIV rates in Africa are really very bad.

Nearly all the black people in my area are first generation africans, and due to that the hiv rate in the black community in my area is close to epidemic levels. So anything that can help will be welcome. I have heard there are some really good things in the labs close to stopping it from spreading etc. Future is bright.

Yeah i was kind of wondering how the flip you wouldn't feel it. I think it's more the guys in Malawi didn't care than didn't know

Try and imagine being a poor woman in this country about 150 years ago and then telling your partner that he had to wear something that would decrease his pleasure during sex. Can you understand why the woman might often lose that arguement? As for the men...

True , but 150 years ago syphillis was a major killer here , for the same reasons as hiv is in Africa . I guess as humans we never learn do we ?

It’s kind of strange that throughout the history of mankind that sti has been such a major cause of death isn’t it ?

I’ve often wondered why everything we enjoy has such dramatic side effects . Sex , food , smoking , alcohol to name a few ......

If the population had much influence on the price of the medical service and device, it wouldn't be prohibitively expensive and would save more lives. We know that sex is an essential human need, and richer countries that have social responsibility shouldn't find it too hard to fund thousands of these each year.

Sadly men's attitude in many countries is terrible, leaving women with minimal protection from abuse.

Bareback sex out of wedlock isn't an essential human need though. So i don't really follow the social responsibility arguement...

But that's evolution though. Something has to be popular to get the critical mass to spread. It's not so much that things that are fun develop consequences and more that consequences can easily spread through things that are popular.

Well I kinda get what you’re saying , but the fact remains that evolution has always shown that we tend to like things that perhaps we shouldn’t doesn’t it ?

I think there are things that used to be rare and now are abundant, therefore there was never a need to develop self control over them so we never did. I wouldn't put sex in that category but sugar and fat, definately

Sex is a human need and it's clear that commonly the men in a number of countries dominate women - including their wives - forcing bareback sex and also using other women similarly. Whilst we in our culture may find this intolerable, context provides the full meaning of their actions. These societies are vastly different to ours and it's tragic that huge numbers of people will contract HIV when this medical aide could prevent this and their loss of lives too, as HIV treatments are not universally available either.

So why is it us that need to change as opposed to them?

I’d put sex at the top to be honest .

History shows that from the very beginning of human life that stds have been prevalent and killed countless billions of people .
