Thousands of people die everyday, yet why do only a few cases make the news?

Its very sad of course that people loose their life whilst working (soldiers and more recently the 4 miners in Swansea RIP)

I don't think i can recall hearing of an office worker that died being shown on the news, or any road maintenance workers?

Like i said, its never nice when people die and im just curious why only a few jobs where people die make TV?

They're called human interest stories. Used from time to time to illustrate the dangers of certain professions and freak accidents that still occur. Sometimes considered soft news which while informative its still playing on watchers emotions. From the back of sad news they interview families and get more background. Sometimes its frowned up opn because it may be construed as making news out of tragedy, as you quite rightly point out.

The flip side is sometimes it boosts fund raising for causes, if for example they tell of the plight of a child who needs specialist equipment for a medical condition, other children need the same, but it is to draw attention to human sorrow and instils empathy, which spurs some people to think deeply I guess.

The fundraising side is a brilliant outcome.. just makes watching the news so damm depressing. Nothing ever good seams to happen in the world these days

Know what you mean, but if, say, some office workers were trapped in a building that had collapsed, then it would be all over the news. It's the 'hope they are alive' factor that makes these things front page news. All very sad
