It's not that clever. It's just programmed to assess your mass 3 seconds prior to when you expect it to.... just as you are about to inhale. |

i was classed as borderline obese at 9and half stone so now that i am 10and half stone i must be. i need to loose weight but not easy when you cant exercise |

true but i would need a lot more than i get to burn the calories and loose weight. apparently that and housework dont count. its brisk walks and running is what you need. it takes me ten min to get up of the sofa |

Not many surgeries use the bmi index to measure obesity due to individual muscle mass giving false readings (muscle weighs more than fat). GP's etc just measure waist size. If its too wide for your height then they will advise dieting for health reasons. Also its important where life threatening fat is distributed. If you put on weight evenly on your limbs you are considered pretty fit compared to someone who has a huge belly and skinny limbs.
Also surgeries are now monitoring the amount of fat around internal organs through specialist scanning. The thinnest person on the outside can have lots of life threatening fat around their heart.
BMI readings and calipers are mostly used in gyms who want to shock you into taking out a membership, she said cynically!! |

While not aesthetically pleasing to the eye to some, I'd rather be fit, podgy and live to a ripe old age than to be athletic, thin, diet controlled but six feet under.
Have you ever studied the number of athletes who die at a very young age or suffer from ill health as they age? It's quite surprising.
Everyone knows a health freak in their town or village who has 'dropped down dead' suddenly at a very young age.
Thin and athletic does not mean fit and healthy if you have crap genetics or abuse your body by pushing it too far.
Perhaps we should be stamped with an expiry date on our bottoms at birth according to our dna, but I doubt it would make us live any differently to our chosen way  |
