Is Die Hard actually a Christmas movie?

I've seen this debated quite a lot on facebook and there seem to be quite a few fair points both for and against.

Is Dir Hard actually a Christmas movie or just one that people like to watch at Christmas?

A lot of people like to watch The Great Escape at Christmas, does that make it a Christmas movie?

All fun and games!

Surely the only Christmas movie is a movie about Christmas! Otherwise all the older Bond movies are Christmas movies because boxing day tended to be their TV premier, if memory serves.

It's set at Christmas, that's good enough for me to deem it so.

And when all the money falls out the window with Hans, it looks like it's snowing.

There's another indicator.

The first two are set at christmas. So yeah christmas movies. That's why tv always shows them at christmas.

Like the first lethal weapon.

None of the james bonds are set at christmas.

Yes it is a Christmas movie

There is a Christmas theme throughout the film, from all the decorations to the snow and there are even moments when you can hear characters singing Christmas songs to themselves

How can it not be a Christmas movie?

Just because it's about some bad shit that goes down a at Christmas instead of good shit! It still has a happy ending... I like a happy ending.

In reality, there's bad shit going on all around us at Christmas. Not all of it has a happy ending!

Of course it's a Christmas movie

Absolutely. What’s not to love about Die Hard. Got everything in it. Action comedy. One of the best Christmas films about.

First die hard has no snow.

Die hard 2 has snow, but both are set at christmas. 1: He is going to meet his wife for christmas and joins her at the office christmas party.

2: he is collecting his wife from the airport as they are having christmas with her parents.

I'd say Die Hard is what I call an Alternative Christmas movie.

In many Christmas movies, Christmas is integrated to the plot whereas in Alternative Christmas movies, even though the movie is set at Christmas, Christmas itself is not the main focus.
