It's difficult one, the elephant hunting is well regulated and the hunters bring in much needed money for these poor countries, they are allowed a trophy but not the body as this goes to feed the poor, so allowing trophies import would create much needed revenue for the poor countries |

As long as the animal isn’t endangered the hunting Ian controlled and it’s used for food I don’t really mind.
You don’t eat the entire animal so why not have a trophy.
I think many people will disagree because it’s an elephant and elephant meat is probably 100% none existent in the UK |

The population of African Elephants has decreased by 70 % since 2005 . It's just wrong on every level . I understand poor people have to eat but I dont believe this happens usually . Most elephants get killed for ivory fuckin ornaments ffs !! |

And there's that arrogant western mentality, that poor Africans villages couldn't possibly feed themselves without the mighty, over privileged American coming to to feed them.
Go look up canned hunting, and then try and say money generated from hunts is used for conservation efforts. Utter bullshit. It goes straight into greedy, moraless assholes pockets. |

Ah well, I didn’t have the facts about elephants population. But if it’s true they are endangered, then no, they shouldn’t be hunted. Mankind has wiped enough species off the planet |

Can I make it perfectly clear, don't agree with hunting animals for sport.. wrestling a lion could be considered a sport, let's see who comes off better in that match..
However, control of elephants is now taking place because the population has now increased, therefore whether it's a game keeper of someone paying, the elephant will be culled one way or another... personally, I'd prefer a more humane method was employed but it is what it is..
My major concern is that by allowing hunting trophies to be brought back to America it opens the flood gate to hunters who also want to bag themselves and elephants head for the wall of their shack..
Before we know it, the illegal poachers will be selling elephant shoots at a reduced rate for those that cannot afford the legitimate hunts and officials being bribed to rubber stamp the export of illegally poached body parts.
Trump should be setting positive examples, however his ego always gets the better and makes him look a total arse.. |

So far the objections seem to be:
- the species is endangered so they shouldn't be hunted. The counter to that is that the money raised from these hunts does, in part, fund conservation
- then there's a claim that the money isn't really going to conservation.
- finally there's a reference saying you wouldn't treat a human that way, which personally i find a bit weak.
I'd like to understand why the money raised from the hunts isn't/ wouldn't be going into conservation and helping increase the population? What are we talking here - too much corruption for the system to funtion as it should? Over hunting? |

Well i don't object on principle but if the system isn't workable in practice / the benefits aren't happening then i wouldn't support it. |

Is it not correct to say that Trump has reversed a ban that was in place during the Obama administration, during which time the elephant numbers dropped by about 30%.
Whilst not a dead cert, how do we ascertain that the ban was helping the elephant population? |

They are endangered and there is no trade in elephant hunting unlike many African bovine species and even lions. Elephants aren't bred for hunting like they are in a sustainable manner. Trump is a top shelf fucking thundercunt. |

Can't get my head round why someone gets a buzz out of going and killing an elephant and that said all the big game hunting.
The lion story springs to mind. If the hunter wants to have a level playing field do it without a gun and fight them then they will see who's the more powerful not some pr#ck using a gun and thinking he's good because he's shot big game. Losers |

Nothing that moron in the White House does surprises me any more. Now it seems like he’s just doubling down on his commitment to appeasing rich white assholes. To be honest OP, I’m disappointed nothing he had done so far had offended you If I hear anyone I know or meet is a Trump supporter then that’s a dealbreaker for me - we can never be friends... |

"What I don't get is why elephants have to die to save elephants.
And, hasn't Bob Geldof been collecting millions to feed the world, for loads of years. "
Yeah it makes him feel better about his tax dodging |
