Hey everyone,
I’ve worked for online businesses since 2004, and like to think that I’m pretty good at all this web-based stuff...
But I was duped the other day by a fake profile, and I’d like to explain how...
This profile had verifications and a verified photo from Admin, and she also sent me some really normal looking pictures... great looking girl, but nothing over the top, like model pics.
Her verifications seemed to state that she was genuine and that she looked great in real life too...
So, normally I would ‘Reverse image search’ anyone who I am unsure of... but she seemed really nice and not overly interested...
Then she asked to chat on kik...
No problem for me, lots of fakes use kik, but so do normal people too...
She then started asking for pics, so I sent her one... nothing rude... and asked for a pic of where she was, just for context...
I got a nude...
Not that I was objecting...
But I’m not massively into pic swapping, I like the real thing...
If someone sends a pic, I do also prefer it to be ‘live’, rather than a pic you took 2 years ago that you’ve been sending to guys ever since...
This pic was clearly an old pic, as it was low quality, and we were chatting on an iPhone app...
I immediately did a reverse image search, as I had specifically asked for a selfie of her at work, and not a pic of her naked...
Anyway... to my surprise, the pics belonged to another girl... all if them... even the ones she sent me via FAB
I asked her why... and she gave me some bs about not being pretty enough... but I still think it’s a guy with fake reviews... or a very weird woman...
Also, I have just had a message from a couple who liked my pics, and I initially ignored it... but then I realised there were pics attached...
A really normal looking, beautiful woman, supposedly from near me...
I get messages a lot from fake people on other sites, so it’s pretty normal to find that it happens here too... but they have actual verifications on their account....
I did a reverse image search on the pics they sent me, and found them to have come from an amateur porn site in the USA...
This couple had verifications on their profile...
So what else can we do to avoid all of this?
It seems that you can get admin to verify your picture, and then hide it and upload fake ones...
Can’t we get admin to make your verified image available to others, or at least have another level of security, such as having a public pic that has been reverse image searched by admin? And checked against your original verified image...?
It’s getting a bit of a joke now how often I’ve had a message off a fake profile that had been verified by admin and lotd of other fab users |
