Has anyone noticed the arrival of lots of small temporary traffic cameras being set up everywhere in the NorthWest probably elsewhere too, generally on a post secured to a lamp or sign with a battery box at the base?

Anyone know what these are for?

Could be traffic flow management or ANPR?

Yeah I spotted a few by ours the other day, I think they’re monitoring the traffic flow on certain junctions, the junction these are on are notorious for long tailbacks and people just being stuck in the middle of the junction and not being able to move when the lights have changed.

ANPR cameras usually. Not used as speed/traffic cameras as such (yet). They are there to look out for cars with a police marker/interest. It's like the cameras used in londons ring of steel but looking out for naughty boys instead of just terrorist's.

They put them on the roads in an out of an area/city/town/estates so they can gather intelligence and/or respond appropriately.

To screw more money out of the motorist BUT if you keep to the speed limit you be fine

I second this, they are used to locate vehicles of interest.
