Who knows their tyres? I need some new ones, and am torn between a set of P Zeros, or Pilot Sport 4. 245/40/18 is what I’m after.

Check the energy rating and the manufacturer's recomendation. Apart from that it's down to price

Can’t go wrong with the Pirelli’s or the Michelins.

Personally I’ve just switched onto uniroyal rain sports which are amazing in the wet.

My main concern when choosing a tyre was wet grip, type R’s are sliding machines of death in the wet

I guess it really depends on the car you drive ! And indeed how you actually drive the car !

What are you looking for good all round tyre for motorway driving etc , or do you have a nippy little number and a hefty right foot

I have a bmw 330cd remapped to around 290bhp.

With it being so quick and being rear wheel drive I want it to stay on the road lol.

My tyres are uniroyal rainsport 3.

Go on a website called black circles.com

I honestly can’t believe how good rainsports are for the cost of them.

Doubt I’ll switch to another tyre for a while now.

My Audi A4 has exactly that size in Pilot Sport 3’s, and I think they’re great! My car does have Quattro though, so may influence the grip abilities? I’ll be swapping on to my winter wheels in the next week or two though

I find that Michelin 2ct's are more than good enough for a Ducati 1098s. Can easily take most corners knees down if needed. The only problem that really crops up is will i see the the speed camera 30 yards in front, and can i brake from 140mph to 30mph quick enough as it happens i can safely say Michelin 2ct's do the job nicely

Michelin’s will give you more miles on wear, if you do high miles they’re better value

Go on tyres on the drive

They are excellent, pop on their website fill in the details and they come to you.

We use them for all our vehicles, brilliant and hassle free.

I can only really afford the “entry”/cheap level tyre.

Don’t do much miles anyway.

Like about 6000miles per year.

I usually get mine done by a mobile fitter, but need 4 wheel alignment, so need to take it to a shop.

Price doesn’t always equate to a good tyre.

Toyo proxes are one of the best examples

I always buy part worn for around 20 quid a tyre...they are normally sourced from parts of Europe were they change from winter to summer tyres and vice versa...so they normally have 8/9 ml of tread.

I know...I'm a cheapskate

If I could afford them, would like top of range:

Continental

Michelin

Kwik fit. I have had a look and most shops only do 2 wheel alignment, I've had to look around to find places that do all 4.

Have p zeros on the r8, Audi recommended etc and have absolutely zero complaints, but everybody seems to be raving over Michelin pilot super sports.

Im not changing the tyres on this until they’re dead but starting from fresh could definitely be worth a look mate.thinking I’m going to go that way next.

"

The super sports have been replaced by the Pilot Sport 4"s". The "s" puts in in the league above the Pilot Sport 4 that I am thinking about. It's the same with the P Zero, there is the standard P Zero and then there is the P Zero Rossi, or P Zero Nero etc. Bloody confusing if you ask me!

Just get the rainsports....you won’t regret it.

You’ll save a few quid too

I paid 78 each fitted for mine on 18s

there are 100s of variations, and they all dont really matter at all. if you have an audi the audi garage will tell you to get AO which means 'audi original' which does absolutely nothing for performance.. same with mercedes, nissan ect 'MO, NO'. there is also things like 'nz, n1, n2'.. basically dont look into it too much as its all really to do with garages and their bullshit.

i'd stay away from high end brands and go for basic middle ground brands such as maxxis, matador (continentals cheaper version) or firestone (bridgestones cheaper version)

You’re right, I think you can probably fall down a hole of tyre choices and never come back out. I’ve just made the mistake of googling tyre options out of curiosity and I’m going in circles here! (No pun)

I like to have a bit of a say, but to be honest I’ve always gone with the advice of the garage and stuck with it. I know for sure that I am going to run out of talent before the tyres do so kind of trust their advice. There’s nothing worse than the indecision and pain of new tyre time is there!

It makes your car faster though, improves the economy, and if you fill with nitrogen and register on here all of the single women will message you.

I don’t actually have hydrogen in my tyres, and I’m sure our man above isn’t really floating around on helium.

We both went for nitrous oxide instead for more power
