Any ideas on how to regain my passion for things.
I used to be an avid tester (time trial rider), I used to go out every day on the bike training or racing. Till one day I just stopped, never been able to get back into it like I used to.
I still do the odd bit of cycling, like the London to Brighton fun ride. But I want to get back into it for health reasons, so far it hasn't happened at all.
Any ideas would be gratefully received. |

OP it sounds to me like you need to find someone who shares this same interest to push you into some motivation.. Do you have any friends who are keen cyclists..? Maybe arrange with them a day in the near future to go on a ride..? How about joining a local cycle club..?
Failing that just break the mould and get your bike out - you will soon realise what you have been missing |

If things seem like a huge jump to be where you want to be again, it's probably better to have smaller steps to get there.
Huge change can be overwhelming and so the smaller incremental changes allow you to progress without any point seeming like too much.
I also think it's wise to acknowledge why you have got to the position that you are currently in - there may be needs that you have that are worth acknowledging as well as addressing in future. |

You need to get motivated just get up one day and whatever you fancy do it or just go a short trip see how you feel maybe you would rather take a long walk get fresh air and read posditive things worth a go good luck |

For me personally, I believe that motivation is a but of a manufactured concept. If you have the desire to do something, then you just have force yourself to do it. You won't necessarily have a burning passion for it, but at least you will have made a start. Once you've made the start, then you will find it gets easier to do it again. You will derive pleasure from just overcoming your initial apathy, and you will give yourself the oportunity to experience the reasons why you chose the sport in the first place.

No, not at all.
I never went out for a ride one day, that was the end of it. I never went to the cycling club meet us either, I still rode places but not for training purposes. |

Is there something else you could do instead?
Going for three social rides isn't that excessive and the sooner you go the sooner you'll have three under your belt.
Have you lost your passion for life in general or just cycling? Is there a bigger issue in your life? |

Don't over think it.
Just get on yer bike.
And don't treat it like its something you feel you have to do.
Maybe pick somewhere you want to go rather than just thinking about the ride... when you get there it's about more than just cycling then...
And if you don't want to do it... don't... we all have choices...

Why not approach a bike retailer and try and find work one day a week or possibly volunteer? It would mean your knowledge of bikes and enthusiasm for the sport is kept up whilst competing is kept to a minimum? You could look into coaching (or helping out) as there are always loads of small track meets and events. |
