There is no "wrong" way to wear a poppy.
Women can wear it either left or right, although convention would suggest on the left.
As for the 11 O'Clock thing. That is a new fashion that people get overexcited about. Putting the leaf at the 11 O'Clock position only occured to the Legion in recent years, Decades ago you didn't always get a leaf with your poppy.
Wear on the left, right, in your hat, on your tie, not at all, it is your choice.
Just make a donation to the Poppy Appeal and go about your business.
Over here in Northern Ireland, some people do not welcome the Poppy. However some people discreetly make donations without getting a poppy so as to not offend friends. |

Iceland, but Aldi is closer.. |
I always have a poppy in the quarterlight windows of my car, get a new one each year.
This year, I have a poppy lanyard for my work pass which is far nicer than the awful grey blue company issue ones.
One thing that really annoys me is those that suggest poppies are racist or any other ism for that matter..
It's just bonkers and slightly sickening.. |

I work for the RBL, out every day this week selling poppies.
There is no correct side to wear a poppy, as long as you wear it with pride.
On the left represents over your heart, and ladies can wear theirs on the right as traditionally this was where the button hole on coats was as opposed to mens which is on the left.
The lead should however always point to 11oclock |

That's how we're told to have ours for parade, some used to wear it behind the cap badge but it's worn on the left pocket in dress uniform now. |

I always buy and wear a poppy and acknowledge the minutes silence on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
That's my personal choice to make. If others choose not too that's their choice, that's what freedom is about, the right to choose.

The rbl made a statement a couple of years ago saying that there was no incorrect way to wear a poppy but some people had there own rules/preferences ie over the heart or having the leaf pointing to 11o"clock.
Sad that people are making "bollocks" and "poppers" comments for effect on a topic like this.
Personally I think that only two things are important here, remembering the sacrifices made and raising money.

And some do. And if friends get offended... well what's new here with that.
I don't and will never do two tribes.... my grandfathers both fought in the trenches one Irish one English... no one there asked which bloody church you went to..

I have a lilac poppy that represents all the animals that have served and been lost. "
Thats a nice touch. Yeah the Khanda poppy represents the sacrifice of the great sikh warriors during the wars |

To anyone who considers the poppy to be a political symbol or attaches any kind of negative, racist or jingoistic meaning to it,I say, to me it is a celebration of the fact that we are no longer at war,we live in a time of relative peace and it is a commemoration of all those who died,on all sides, to give us our freedom and security.
So,they can tell me to take off my poppy and I will refuse and continue to wear it,not with pride but to give thanks.

Errrr... I hate to break it to you....
No. It's not a celebration. And commemoration has some inaccurate meanings for this. It's in remembrance. And rightly so. |

"I was gifted a white poppy recently "
I wouldn't wear a white poppy as it tries to white wash the blood of those those who fought and sacrificed their lives, limbs, and mental wellbeing so we could live in a democratic country. |

Pride you , they say ?
It was my understanding that a poppy is a symbol for all human kind to remind us of the abhorrent vile and inhumane nature of war and to promote peace amongst humans
Sadly I feel it has been hijacked by nationalism and for this reason I'm very ambivalent
It should read , millions of innocent people have died and continue die in wars they don't understand
Wear your poppy to represent the shame it is to be part of murderous humanity and the horrors one group of people can inflict upon another and try to promote the end to wars x
But no it's mutated to
Wear this symbol that we proudly forced millions to be shot and beat those Jonny foreigner German , Europeans
There is nothing to be proud of where war is concerned even if you "win"

I've fought in most major warzones as an infanteer since some twat decided it was a good idea to invade Kuwait in 1990. Many mates have come home not in the condition they left or not come home at all.
But what bugs me these days is the competitive edge to Remembrance these days. What poppy you wear, how you wear it or for how long really doesn't matter. I think these days they call it virtue signalling.
Do what you think is right, but do it for the right reasons. Andy, Dowser, Baloo, Postie Pete and many others all did what they thought was right without shouting about it.
Rest in Peace lads.

That is the kind of jingoistic attitude I was referring to before. I will continue to argue against that and I will continue to wear my poppy, not out of pride that 'we' won but as a small way of giving thanks that we never go through that kind of hell and as a mark of respect to all those who died. |

The poppy has never been about who won or who lost any war.
Its remembering those who were slaughtered of all nations not just the British.
We can rail against the idiocy of politicians the idea that wars ever solved anything and the fact that humanity is so often determined to wipe itself out for a whole range of barking mad ideas. Those that propagate such ideas are rarely those who end up dead.
There is no right or wrong way to wear a poppy... there is no obligation to wear a poppy. I'm not even sure why this thread is becoming so like so many other argumentative threads on here.
That poppy it's not just a badge it's a means of funding those from all conflicts who need our help and support for whatever reason.
We should wear it or not as out conscience dictates.
But for all those who did change the world...
We will remember them
