So the queen is a major investor in the rip off company bright house.
This company rip off the poor with their lending rates and pay very little tax as they are a off shore company.
It is all legal but is it morally right?
Your thoughts? |

Yeah, wonder if she was advised where to invest, even if she was, she should know where her money is going! ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

My thoughts on all of these revelations that have been coming out the past few years is that wealthy people are going to find out that the average person doesn't really care about all of their immoral practices. There was a time when this stuff was hidden because there was a fear about what would happen if the general population found out. Now that it's all coming out and we do nothing...well...I think they are going to realize they don't even need to hide it anymore.
As trump said when he was questioned about his tax avoiding practices....he takes advantage of the system because it's there to be taken advantage of. It's like hearing other relatively poor people say "you wouod do it if you were them" thereby missing the point entirely. ![](/icons/s/neutral.gif) |

I bet she doesn't even know what bright house is ??
Just shows that people with money who let others look after their money in order to make money will probably have no idea what's being done with it too make them money
Probably don't care anyway ? |

There and to the left a bit |
I would suspect the Queen herself, and possibly even those responsible for the investment actually didn't know who, specifically, they were investing in other than an "offshore fund", that then in turn invested in Brighthouse - however there are still moral questions around investing in an offshore fund in the first place - particularly as head of state.
Either way now it has come to light, I would hope any monies invested are withdrawn without hesitation.

Now its out heads will roll. My own thinking is she gets X millions from the puplic purse based on various things one of which will be the amount of tax she pays on it, not paying tax? Then she doesn't get so much money from the public purse.
Its us that should be saving it, not her..

Not just doesn't know brighthouse, I'd suggest she doesn't actually have any idea where or how her money is invested.
Not that ignorance is an excuse.
I would say however that I think there's a lot of hypocrisy surrounding it. I've seen what happens to people when they are given a tax avoidance loophole. They jump straight through it.

Hypocrisy indeed. Legally making money - yes okay. But like other people / bodies in positions of trust (the church / politicians to name but a few) I think the royals have a moral responsibility to avoid investment like this. You think about all the charities they support. No doubt these include many under privellaged sectors of society - vulnerable people who use the likes of Brighthouse. |

How many of us actually know where our monies are being invested once we put them in any high street bank? Unless you bank with someone like the CO-OP who state they don't invest in unethical companies you really have no clue. The only safe place for your money is in your mattress ![](/icons/s/2/eh.gif) |

That’s true. But then most of us aren’t standing as figure heads in society which I think is the difference. |

I'm with Tequila Mockingbird on this.
Where do you think that 1 - 5% interest comes from when you put your money in your bank account? More than likely it came from making someones life harder.
If she invested in apple would you all complain? They are an offshore company? Intel, google?
Its unfortunate this company makes its money in this way, but I highly highly doubt the Queen was aware of it.
I'm nor British, I am Irish just giving my opinion that she did nothing wrong. |

Because only people with celebrity status should be held to account when they trust an outside expert to look after their monetary interests?? |

Not sure I would call the monarch, the church and policitians as celebrity status
No I didn’t say my comment was exclusive did I. Why do you feel these people / bodies should not be accountable and be able to invest money wherever they choose ? |

If someone can find me the tape where Lizzie says "fuck it Philip, let's invest in Brighthouse and laugh while the paupers suffer" then I will be the first to admit that she should be held accountable. Until then she is just a person who is not an economic expert putting her trust in someone who is an economic expert to do their job and look after her money in a legal way. According to the Duchy of Lancaster, the investment stands at £3208. I doubt that qualifies the queen as a major investor.

And what's so good abut being a patriot?
Glad you've declared every single penny that's ever gone through your hands to the tax man though so can speak with the righteous authority on this.

And if you earn over £15000 your in the world's top 10% of wealth.
Figures don't always represent the truth.
The investment in brighthouse equated to roughly £3800 from the story on BBC website that I read. Major investor?? |

There's a bit of a difference between 10% and 0.01% the BBC have the figure of 0.1% that own 80% of tax haven wealth |

£10 million was the total invested offshore, not the investment in Brighthouse.

It's not £10 million in a pension fund and the amount invested in Brightside is just over 3 grand. If you have a pension fund, the likelihood is that the pot contains more that figure, so do you know where it's all invested? Principles and all that! |

The ten million in question is from Her Maj s personal fortune.
I just found it laughable tgat some minion came on radio four to defend her, saying that she would have had no knowledge of where her money went.
She didn't get where she is today by handing over ten million with no idea what was happening to it.
'Don't worry Liz, your money's safe wiv me.Ask no questions and I'll tell no lies'. "Oh yes, of course. Are you sure ten is enough? I could make it twenty".
Very likely. |
