My first car had a stereo where you pushed a button in and the needle jumped left or right.

I also had to pull the cable out when you first started it up which increased the fuel flow.

(Wasn't allowed the easy, banned word used to describe this device)

Raking...

Using your boots to ruck out

Waking up Sunday morning with your back stuck too the bed sheets because you were slowing the ball down.

Oh how I miss those stud marks

Wearing a baseball cap when driving guaranteed me being pulled over by the police to make sure I wasn't a joy rider.

Who would knick this MG Maestro?

Or its stereo?

Officer, what makes you think there is any joy riding this thing or even being seen riding in it?

Going down the shop with a pound note and a hand written note off Mum and coming back with a packet of fag for her.

Snickers were marathons and Starbucks were opal fruits.

Tearing a piece off a cigarette packet to gap them because you didn't have a feeler gauge.

Then again who remembers feeler gauges?

And you forgot condenser and coil.

Oh and mechanical fuel pumps bolted to the side of the engine and driven by the camshaft.

Remember pushrods and tappets?

Modern cars with generally inbuilt reliability have led to a whole generation of adults being useless at manual tasks around the home

I've had a huge argument years ago with a vauxhall garage where a laptop was telling them there's no fault on my vectra(bad car) but the dam car has cutting out on the motorway

The mechanic with the laptop and diagnostics. I've met a few of them, can't diagnose or troubleshoot to save their lives.

The dizzy in my mini lived in a rubber glove for a while as it kept getting damp.

Can't just mend motors so easily now, everything is all computer bullshit controlled. Motoring costs me so much more these days because of such un user mendable stuff. You need a laptop before you need a socket set now.

We had to go up chimneys, but now people have central heating, so can't earn an honest farthing or two.

And there weren't several hundred TV channels ,

We were discussing this in the pub last night and couldn't decide if it was nostalgia or true, I argued it was true tbh.

Thought so, I remember long hot summer holidays and weeks off school because the bus couldn't get to us and when it struggled through snow drifts to get to us we his and went home saying the bus hadn't turned up.

Met mates with sledges and walked a couple of miles to the nearest proper hill

Happy days

All you need to ask yourself is when was the last hosepipe ban? That's what summers were made of.

When the tarmac was literally melting underfoot. You could smell it.

Those were the days! I didn't even get my shorts on this year. Probably a good thing to be fair.

I'm off sledging the first snowflake I see.
