On the back of a gender equality conversation during lunch with two lady friends; one is super women's lib, the other enjoys the mix of equality and traditional roles. The topic got onto what privileges have historically been afforded to women - think the tabloid version of chivalry.
Miss lib wants "total equality for women" and to tip the scales some as payback with interest.
After not getting any middle ground, Miss mixed sweetly and quietly posed the simple question - "Do we still get to use the lifeboats first?"
Miss lib's instant reply - "Yes, we deserve to."
I sat out of most of the conversation but I found that to be extremely hostile.
Rant over. |

Of course I want a society where woman are given the same rights and opportunities as men, in this modern age there is no reason not to, we are all human.
On the other hand I do want my femininity to be recognised and my role as a woman to be distinguished. Im talking with regards to chivalry and maybe even some gender stereotypes-I like being the softer sex.
With regards to the life boat situation then yes we should go first. Not because of any kind of repressed societal debt but because at the end of the day we carry the babies, if the world goes tits up then the more women the better! |

Just in case anyone tries to read into my original post stuff about my viewpoint. My view is - a human is a human is a human. Gender doesn't come into it, the person is the person and it's what they do or don't contribute. Their "bits" are nothing to do with that. |

When Corey Feldmen complained about being molested as a child, it was women who told him to shut up.
I think we are close to having equality but the next step is to make women pay for meals/homes. To give men equal share of life boats.
I also think if a woman is allowed kill my unborn child without my permission then I should have equal right to sign a bit of paper saying I want her to abort a baby and wont pay a penny toward it. I don't see why its only them that gets to cut an unborn child out of their life. Hardly equal is it?
(I'm anti abortion, but pro equality) |

I’ll assume you friend is fighting for equality in the army too then? In the front lines?
How about in the mining industry?
Or rubbish collection?
Sewagege treatment??
Teaching, nursing?
No funny that...
It’s true everyone wants equality when is suits them..
As a humanist belive in equal ops, nothing more, but of course equal opps will always breed discrepencies in pay and percentages, and i’m fine with that. |

That's an assumption.
Why assume that's nkt what she wants?
Should women be given the same access to these roles as men? Yes!
Shoukd they be paid the same for doing the same. Hell yes! |

You're equating the work of carrying and raising a child to a small financial contribution. That's part of the problem. |

That's equal opportunity and that what we should have, do we no not yet.
oh and that whole wage gap thing is a total, myth, it's just an average of every man and every woman in work.

Yup, regardless of stereotypes, I recognise gender differences in psyche, emotional and even spiritual being - vive la difference I say, it has bugger all to do with equal rights to pay etc. |

no it's not, what it is is giving men the choice women have had since abortion become legal, it would give men equality without forcing women to have abortions.

They already do, honestly I'd love to be able to hire a woman for less but it's illegal to discriminate |

Not at all. This is a minefield. Without getting into the emotional scars that abortion can bring etc. The woman can decide that unborn child gets aborted. The guy could want to raise that child and yet can do nothing about it. It's the same if the child gets born. If the woman decides to raise the child on her own, again the guy can do nothing about it. Forget about whether he has to pay towards the childs upbringing or not, he simply has fuck all say in the matter. That's a bigger part of the problem. |

An absolute mine field this subject of equality ...now yes i am in favour of it but the biggest problem i see is nobody can agree to what extent ..that includes women crying out for it ..there seems to me to be too many want to cherry pick what equalities they want ..should it not be a blanket equality across the board
As for the life boat scenario ...it should really be done by age .not gender ...youngest first |

Women do pay for meals and homes. Some of us pay all the bills. |

It's highly biased in favour of the female. To what extent should society be able to force women who don't want a child to carry it through to full term ? |

My bias was not to either of them, my bias was to my feeling it was a very hostile response.
Your personal bias towards my words is what caused your reaction. This is why I added the next bit, as after reading my first post again I realised someone was going to cherry pick, colour, and twist what I said. |
