Hide what area? It shows how far away people are when you have site supporter. It shows the area from your postcode on your profile. It always did.
You can change the town name.
Just pick a postcode from the area you want people to think you're in.  |

If my memory serves me right, the postcode thing was added about 4 or 5 years ago.
You weren't given a choice however and those that lived in small villages were not happy but couldn't do anything about it apart from 'move themselves' to the nearest large city. |
