I have not read his first trilogy...dark matters or something.....now that La Beau Sauvage is out, for those who are fans, do I
A) Read the new book first, being a prequel or
B) Read his first books then his new one? |

Good question... I've read the original trilogy and I'm just making tracks into Book Of Dust, around 70 pages in. I'd say read the original trilogy first simply because they were published first. Apparently the next two books in the Book Of Dust series are sequels to HDM.
Funny story - my mum preordered the signed and numbered (only five thousand copies have been issued) special edition for my birthday and forgot, then preordered the regular edition for me. So she's kept the special edition for me for Christmas, which of course has already sold out, and those special editions are going for £100+ on Ebay.  |

As Pullman describes the new books as neither sequel or prequel but equal you presumably could read them first if you so desire.
As only the first part has been released and it will almost certainly be a long wait for the next instalment I would think there’s only one sensible suggestion....Read his dark materials first

Absolutely not, she won't even let me take the cellophane off to see what number it is. I told her I'd sell it off in 20 years to pay her care home fees. |

Yeah it's clever stuff.
I read one of his books, forget the title, about Jesus and his twin brother, basically 'you sacrifice yourself bro and I'll hide behind and build the brand.' I like the way he tackles issues and asks questions
