Lady my rough collie I grew up with. Love of my life

My dog now is only 2 so don't have to worry about the rainbow bridge yet although he's a pit bull mix and when they die they go over the council bridge to chase anything that moves to their hearts content. Bless

Lots of previous rescue dogs, miss them all. But most recently our last little staffie girl, we lost her just over a year ago and I still get upset thinking about her! We now have another rescue staffie cross, he's an old boy too though so we'll end up going through it all again... just can't resist old dogs!

Her xx

In the right hands and just like all other dogs, pit bulls are lovely. No different to staffys.(ive a lovely staffy girl). Not sure if I'm supposed to mention other websites on here but I follow a charity called Hope for Paws which predominantly rescues pit bulls and has trained them as assistance dogs to work with amongst other things, people with PTSD.

Well said! They're just big staffies. If pitbulls weren't banned in the UK we'd rescue one in a heartbeat.

Hiding in the shadows

I had a crazy Jack Russel, most antisocial creature ever, hated everything. Would have had an ASBO if she were human.

But around my kids, softer than warm butter.

14yrs my best friend & more faithful than my husband ever was.

We lived in a rented house when she died so couldn't bury her in the garden, so had her cremated

Her ashes in a little oak box on the window sill, she always loved laying in the sun

I have a little garden outside of my kitchen window where my late wife and I buried our GSD and a rough collie, there is also a friends chocolate labrador with them and now my late wife's ashes are buried with them as she wanted.

We lost 2 in the space of 18 months. 1st was my beautiful girl scruff who was a lab cross sheepdog. She was a rescue who was beaten daily by her owner. So timid when we first got her but after building trust with her she became a lovely family pet and we were happy she lived her last days with us in a loving family. She's buried under a yellow rose bush.

Our second dog to go was my working boy pax. He was my first guidedog and unfortunately had fluid build up around his heart but never showed any symptoms. Just woke me up to go out in the middle of the night and just went. It has really hit me hard because of the nature of the relationship we had.

We still have little daisy who is a staffy cross lurcher and a bundle of energy.

Had to have our 6yr old King Charles Spaniel put to sleep yesterday after he suddenly became ill over the weekend. He was the most lovely dog and we’re all devastated. Only ten months since we lost our 15yr old lurcher too

Yes last month my beautiful Barney-boy (golden retriever) when to rainbow meadow. Bless him. His hips where failing him and he was 12 which is a good age for goldies. We decided to put him to sleep whilst he was still happy and not in too much pa8n as we knew he would be suffering come the winter.

My daughters first dog (after many months of nagging from her!),was a King Charles. He was a lovely little thing so easy to train.I had a lab/lurcher who lived just one month short of his 21st birthday!Alot of people don't understand the devestation of losing a much loved pet.I actually think that people who don't like the idea of having a pet are the ones who could learn the most from them!

Had dogs since I can remember so lost quite a few over the years...trick is the same as with people...be as good as you can be to them in life, right to the end and know that you did all you could to make their life a good one, knowing they had a life and that it was a good one is the important bit I think

So sorry to hear everyone's stories. Just goes to show that our furbabies really are family.

I was heartbroken at losing my German Shepherd 8 years ago.

He had a brain tumour which caused epilepsy and as it grew it was pressing in nerves in his back which mean his legs would give way sometimes. People used to comment all the time "oh German Shepherds are prone to that" pissed me off no end, oh do fuck off dipshit, the problem is in head not his hips.

The epilepsy we controlled for two years. He did well on medication, blood tests and med reassert every six months. He was well loved at the Vets. Such a character.

We had him pts after a massive fit rendered him unconcious. Worst decision ever.

My dog now is his great great nephew. Complete arsehole of an animal

I've raised 3 generations of Border Collies. They all went to the Great Kennel In The Sky aged about 14, the last one about 8 yrs ago. Would love another one, but as I now live in a 1 bed flat on the top floor, it's not really practical

Yes you are right about loyal, GSD's are an amazing breed, loyal and loving. My boy is my world, my shadow and protector.

I have my boy pax's ashes by my bed as it's still to soon to be apart from him. Eventually we are going to put some in a lovely urn to put in a shadow box and we're going to sprinkle some ashes on scruffs rose bush too

you do know that its not just 'your' dog thats cremated, its all the ones that have been euthanised that day. same as human crematoriums, they dont do it one at a time, everyone is bundled in and the ashes divvied up.

just saying. next time dont waste your money

When I was with my ex, if I dared to go out alone and leave him with my ex, he wouldn't even move until I came home, never mind eat his nightly pudding, he would then start pacing 5 minutes before I walked in the door! yeah fair play, in fairness my post probably came across a bit cold, my dog died last year and i was gutted. but knowing someone who works in a crematorium for humans and realising that your old granny gets cremated at the end of the day with everyone else thats been through and the ashes divvied up so to speak, it rages me that vets will charge for a pet cremation when what ends up in a jar on your mantlepiece is probably 20% beloved fido, 30% mog the cat and 50% various rabbit and guinea pigs. that will be 200 smackers please. no.

If requesting an individual cremation, that is exactly what happens - individual. And you're wrong on the human cremations too.

You cam choose either a communal cremation, or private. Our vets used a place called Summerleaze. Costs about £25 or you can have have a private cremation. Costs can vary, we paid around £150 for our boy. The crematorium also included a chapel where you could wait while the cremation was taking place.

So to put peoples mind at rest you can choose a private cremation. Ask whoever is dealing with the request.

So to put peoples mind at rest you can choose a private cremation. Ask whoever is dealing with the request. "

Yep, if you request and pay for individual cremation, you get individual cremation. Just your pet. I've done this with all my dogs.

I never had the chance to say goodbye to Sue, she was a 21 years old border collie when my mum had to say goodbye.

There was shane, another border collie. She was the family pet and my nanny when I was baby, she was a guard dog and best mate.

Sally, a little mongrel. She looked like a lion cub, just as fierce.

Spirit, a 3 year old harris hawk.

"Oh! The timing of this

Had to have our 6yr old King Charles Spaniel put to sleep yesterday after he suddenly became ill over the weekend. He was the most lovely dog and we’re all devastated. Only ten months since we lost our 15yr old lurcher too "

so sorry bad timing

I can honestly say ( family aside) I have never known love and loyalty like it , not from humans anyway . It's made me realise how cruel and arrogant the human race can be

Dogs are loving and loyal because they are just like a child and don't really see the bad in the world unless their owner is in trouble.

That's so true . He's only a little dog but he would die for me . And I love my kisses with him . I know you are not supposed to let your dog lick or kiss you but the welcome I get when I get home I just have to . His little stump wagging and jumping up at me I have to have immediate cuddles . First thing I do every day after work before anything else

They are not just a dog. That's like saying all humans are the same!!! Every dog is unique and have a personality of their own. I could never imagine my life without dogs. We still have daisy who's a staffy lurcher cross but she gravitates to my wife more

After years of dogged resistance (pardon the pun) I caved and we got a white GSD/Siberian Husky cross. He was an incredible family dog. Looked like a wolf but really gentle and soft yet quietly protective to the wife and kids. He was also my shadow and we had some great times with him. When he died suddenly and without warning I was devastated, as were we all. I can't replace him.

Lol yeah chicken is good for them. Also if you don't think she's getting enough nutrients give her a small dish of warm milk with a raw egg in it. Does wonders for their coats. My boy used to love chicken with wholemeal rice or pasta with carrots and peas in it as well.
