What do you fear?
Why?
Is it tangible?
I fear getting Alzheimer's disease. I fear reliving parts of my life I have worked hard at getting over. Although the evidence of a familial link through research at present, is small, it's present in both sides of my family. |

The idea of having a disagreement with someone, and them suddenly dying without having a chance to make up. But, on the bright side, I think that's what's influenced my ability to not hold grudges or to stay mad at someone for too long. |

Death. Don't like not knowing what's gonna happen.
Stepladders. Only the wobbly ones. Bad experience of a 15 footer when I was younger.
Donkeys. One tried to buck me off when I was in Blackpool when I was 7. |

From what I've read that's one of the irrational beliefs... Thinking you need others to love you. It's very interesting. |

Me too. I have no children and am single. If life works out the way we all expect it too then I will be the last one left in my family as they will have all passed away before me. |

Death seems a common theme. I wonder if death is more frightening for people without a belief system.
I don't fear death as I'm spiritual and believe this is a short phase of my essence's (spirit/soul/energy) evolution.
I don't fear the death of anyone close to me - I just don't want to outlive my children.
I don't fear the pain of death if I am to suffer a terminal disease due to excellent palliative care we have in this country.
If I was to dwell on different ways to die, then I'd probably come up with a few I'd be scared of - so I don't dwell |

"Nothing "
Surely you suffer from certain fears for the sake of your health? The fear of getting burned so you're careful around flames; the fear of getting knocked down, so you use the green cross code etc.

It would be irrational to fear emergence of the likes of Jason vorhee, but not irrational to walk the safest route home cos you're wary of what/who is in the dark. |

As I get older I have more fear
I'm single and I spend a lot of time alone.
I fear always being alone.
I fear I'm missing out on life.
I fear spending the rest of my life doing what I'm doing now.
I fear boredom and detachment. |

As long as any occurrences of failure are seen as steps closer to success, I'm sure it's all good . Look at Einstein, it took him years to prove his theory of relativity.

To fear nothing is a great ideal but, if you genuinely believe you're not frightened of anything...you haven't looked hard enough or pushed hard enough! Or you're lying and putting on a front?
My eldest son suffered terribly from depression when he was younger. Leaving him home alone used to frighten me in case I came home to find him swinging (not in the fab way)! |

Therea a lot of things I should be afraid of after some of the experiences I've had. Fear of being trapped under water or in a house fire being two. Car accidents, etc. But I'm not afraid of those things.
I think I'm more fearful of not being able to help somebody else in their moment of crisis than myself.
And not so much a fear, but I dread the day I'm the oldest of the family others turn to. Mainly because I see how much my father does for the family and friends without question. Dread not being up to it. |

Never give up seaside! You never know what's round the corner. I met my wife while she was working in a shop. The manager thought I was a shoplifter and told her to keep an eye on me. I became aware she was stalking me around the shop so took her for a little walk about before asking her why she obviously thought I was up to no good. I then ask her if she'd like to meet for a drink when she had lunch. She said no. Two days later, while walking past she grabbed me and asked if I was still up for a drink. We've been married for 21 years! Meeting my wife or any one for anything that day was the last thing on my mind. It just goes to show that things can happen when you least expect them. You have a good positive outlook, good morals and you come across as a nice guy. I'm am sure one day some one will be proud to say you're their man!
My wife had a stroke a few years ago. It frightens me that she might have another one! Make the most of life and the one thing you should never be afraid of is taking opportunities that present themselves to you! |

I can relate to that, it takes a great deal of inner strength to overcome the anxiety and get out there. I nearly always end up enjoying myself though. What's it all about? |

Being diabetic my biggest fear is that my feet are going to fall off ( an old scrubs joke) seriously tho I am very scared that if I don't stay on top of it I will lose a foot or two.
I am fully in control of my diabetes however as time goes on I now realise what a total nightmare it is having it.
Being diabetic effects just about everything else and causes so many complications.
So I guess my fear is not being able to control it. |

I don't have any major fears. Nothing that stops me in my tracks and leaves me curled up in a ball in the corner.
I have a healthy rational fear of things that might hurt if I do them, jumping from height, deep water (I can't swim), that kind of stuff.
I do however, tend to face fear and do it anyway. For example the OCR that I run has a 35ft slide into deep water. I go down the slide because when I rationally think about it, no one has died yet on it and there are plenty of people around to help me. |

Good question. I'm not sure. We started swinging because of the illness (its autoimmune, so no danger to anyone else), and I do tend to savour things more now.
Most of us tend to live life in the future. Looking forward to Christmas, payday or even just the weekend. I tend to see the beauty in now. I might not be well enough to see the beauty tomorrow.
It's funny but you think of your bucket list. There's nothing on mine. I'll take what I'm given. A late rose came into bloom this morning. I'll take that for today. |

My first experience of a lift. I was very young. Standing with my mum facing the door. I was feeling nervous anyway. As the doors started to close, a man rushed forward and put his arm through the doors and they closed around it
I new nothing of the safety system and it seemed like an age before the doors opened and the man stepped in.
I shit my pants as this arm hung there, the fingers wiggling.
It was a long time, into my teens before I'd get in a lift. Even now, as the doors close, that's the image I see.
I'm no longer frightened but lifts still make me feel mildly uncomfortable if I let them! |
