Anyone have examples of songs where the cover versions are better than the originals.

A couple of mine are:

Saxon - Ride Like the Wind

Amy Winehouse - Valerie

Any others you like?

The Disturbed one absolutely, gives me goose bumps whereas I could easily never listen to the original.

Also recently loving Marilyn Manson’s Sweet Dreams and Personal Jesus. And Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah is pretty awesome too.

It hurts to listen to the original. It was in the charts the month my dad died. 37 years ago in June. Very painful memories.

A couple of mine are:

Saxon - Ride Like the Wind

Amy Winehouse - Valerie

Any others you like? "

Im late to this but the Valerie cover ruins it!

However, great cover versions are;

Handbags & gladrags - Stereophonics (bot sure on the original)

Feels like we only go backwards - alex turner/arctic monkeys (tame impala)

Wilhelms Scream - james blake (again not sure on the original)

Yeah, fantastic track as a cover, in fact, all of James Blakes covers are brilliant, Limit to Your Love is probably the most famous but he also covers Joni Mitchells “A case of you”

Supremely talented musician. Im a big fan.

I love the Arctic monkeys. Will have to listen to James Blake. I like expanding my musical tastes and the threads been great for that.

Another cover/sample is I don't wanna know by Mario winans it samples boudica (I think that's how you spell it) by enya
