An abbreviation of "You are" is "You're" and the words "Are not" can be shortened to "Aren't"
I've recently pondered if all three words "You are not" which is usually abbreviated as "You're not" or You aren't" can be shortened to "You'ren't" (possibly pronounced 'Yaunt')
Any thoughts, or may other examples?

I used to live with a Geordie, maybe thats where i subliminaly got it from?!
I wasnt going to contact the Oxford Concise with it View, just wanted your thoughts!! |

There is already a version of this in literature - albeit an American author I think. The delightful term is "y'ain't".

There is already a version of this in literature - albeit an American author I think. The delightful term is "y'ain't".

If you are Peggy Hill from King of the Hill (old US cartoon) who never used contractions.
I use "could you not" frequently, as in "could you not speak so loudly please".
One of my favourite abbreviations is from the navy - "fo'c'sle" for "forecastle". |

And my all time Venetian favourite... From the original farewell salutation "We are your humble servants" reduced from "Ci siamo i vostri umili servi" to

I have a client who signs his emails off with CHOW. If he was a colleague I'd tell him his faux pas - it makes me cringe everytime I read it and he obviously doesn't just buy from us so must be chowing with everyone and ruining this wonderful Italian salutation. |

I think people do a lot of things deliberately to get on peoples tits however it sticks out like a sore thumb when people use phrases and words they haven't a clue about. If he's doing it deliberately then all it does is make him look foolish, not get on my tits. As I said, it makes me cringe on his behalf. So perhaps I care more about how he comes over and am dying to re-educate, rather than being irritated because I am a purist? You learn nothing in this life if you close your mind after you leave school, in my very humble opinion  |
