Anyone else into the healthy lifestyle? Feel free to post questions if you're looking for advice. New routines, foods and exercises would be appreciated (especially for legs... because we all love them ). Currently training 4-5 times a week, roughly 70kg of lean muscle. Hopefully not just a thread for the fellas, I know we've got some fitness ladies out there too |

"I'm a personal trainer.
You beat me on the muscle mass OP, but not by much "
I'm sure you'd show me up with squats . Maybe you can help, I seem to be at a plateau. I'm adding noticeable definition but can't gain mass for the life of me. My metabolism plus training seems to just burn through the calories like a light snack. Currently intaking 3250 cals a day. |

As long as you repeat the dunking motion 10 times for 3 sets |

Eat more, 3250 a day isn't a lot if you're training 4-5 times a week.
I'm 110kg, 90kg lean mass and eating 5000 calories a day |

I can relate to this, i would ideally like to put on around a stone to 20 pounds so i can bulk out but I’ve tried super smoothies frequent meals. The lot, but to no avail. |

Squats.. My favourite, deadlifts 2nd!
It's not all about calories, are you getting the right balance 30/30/40 in food groups, plus check your macro/micro nutrients?
If you're looking to build mass, are you taking protein/pre/post workout supplements?
And mix up your workouts, your body, muscle groups will become efficient if you stick to the same excercises.

If you're not gaining weight you're simply not eating enough.
The majority of people over estimate the amount of calories they consume.
Liquid calories are a good way of doing it, I use them as 5000 cals of solid food is too much.
Full fat milk, oats, peanut butter, banana, whey protein. You can easily get 800 calories plus out of them. |

"I don't think living a routine is healthy for the mind "
Depends I guess, personally I work for extended periods of time in front of a screen (10+ hours, which isn't healthy anyway) so getting out and exercising gives me a release. It also focuses my mind, after a workout I can usually come home and fire off 50 emails without thinking about it |

I’ve just started back after nearly 2 years out. I was kickboxing and training five times a week. Getting back into the swing of things is so difficult! I don’t know how I did it before haha! |

Have a look at stronglifts 5x5, good for strength and adding a bit of size. |

I've been tracking calories on myfitnesspal which has been super helpful, but never accurate like you say. It's more to do with apetite than anything for me. Before I started I was always underweight, right now I'm just fighting against my metabolism. Trying to keep on top of 2 mass gainer shakes plus oats in the morning and 3 other meals throughout the day. Bit uncomfortable to be full constantly though |

How did you know? No, unfortunately not. I've got an ecommerce buisiness and the customer service gets a bit hectic at peak hours. |

You need to change what you eat then. Eat more calorie dense foods. Scrap the oats and eat something with higher G.I. Pasta, rice e.t.c. You basically want to spike your insulin response as often as you can so eat frequently. Add in nuts and olive oil for easy calories. |

This, graze on 50g of almonds in the day, easy ~300 calories and not filling. 10ml of olive in a shake is 90 calories. Do that twice a day and with the nuts that's the best part of 500 calories and you'll notice no change in how full you feel. |

Surely given the obesity crisis we're faced with shouldn't that be 'most people underestimate the amount of calories they consume'. |

I cycle a few times a week and also swim so cardio is covered. Currently training for a charity ride London to Paris next year.
So Im pushing myself outside my comfort zone. Starting training next week with a pro body building women 3 times a week plus diet plan. My objective will be to compete in July next year....now that scares me as Ive never been a gym girl. |

I was referring to the majority of those who train and want to get bigger, not the general population as a whole |

2 x PT sessions
2 x spin classes
1 x body pump
And usually either a hike or cycle.
Arthritis in my foot is starting to limit some of my movement.
Love my grub too much to care what I weigh. I'm fitter and stronger than most women my age. |

I am living the fitness lifestyle and I like the results I am getting. I have been lifting weights since I was 18 years. I go to the gym 4 times a week and I do cardio 50min everyday and I eat every 2hrs |

My advice, sweet and simple.
Low fat diet, 1.5 hours of cardio weekly, 3-5 gym visits/workouts.
Try to eat five small meals throughout the day.
If you want to gain weight still try to avoid fats, just have an uptake in calories. High protein, less reps.
If you want to lose weight, avoid stodgy foods: bread, pasta... Going against the grain, but fight against the hunger a little. Your appetite will decrease accordingly and its harder than you think to get it back.
