Here are mine:
Yojimbo
Seven Samurai
Jean de Florette
Manon des Sources

Nikita

The House of the Flying Daggers
I would love to get Kung Fu Hustle as I believe it is a brilliant film.
Would also get Rise the Red Lantern and Farewell My Concubine.
Any recommendations welcome.

I have seen Battle Royal on TV, and don't like it. Probably because the cast is too young for my liking. |

Love 'Manon des Sources' & 'Jean de Florette'..
Recent ones I'd recommend include 'la tete en friche' (released in the UK as 'my afternoons with Margeuritte'), 'of gods and men' and the frankly awe-inspiring documentary 'Benda Bilili!'.. |

I really should start categorising my collection, as I have started to duplicate films because I cannot remember what I have got. |

Any others from the series?"
Not exactly mate, but the director also directed very similar films (albeit maybe not up to the standard of Spirited Away in my opinion, but still very good)
Nausicaä
Castle in the Sky
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porco Rosso
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
Ponyo
I've watched most of these, yeah they're for kids, but like Shrek, sometimes animated media transcends age when it becomes very good. |

"hey dark horse i just finished a book called sophies world , didnt know there was a film is it a swedish film about philosophy?"
Ah, you got me
There IS a two part film made for TV. It's very good, but very very hard to find. Just as the wiki says, "It was not widely released outside of Norway".
Contact me if you want a copy. It'd be shame for something so rare and good to disappear completely, there's not even hardly any seeds for it. |

Thats what i meant, all of his Studio Ghibli work; i liked Castle in the Sky 2nd to Spirited away.
Like you say, some anime is originally intended for the younger generation but can appeal to us adults also.
I'm into my Yu Yu Hakosho, Bleach, DBZ, Deathnote, etc |

Have all those studio Ghibli films.
As has been said before, they appeal to all ages.
I also have Il Postino starring Massimo Troisi in his last ever role before he died.
The film is about a postmans relationship with a poet he delivers to, Pablo Neruda. Neruda helps the character Mario Ruoppolo discover how to write prose and poetry and use it to eventually woo the local beauty he is in love with.

Oldboy is actually Korean, but I didn't post just to be pedantic - the fella behind it, Chan Wook-Park (sp?) made two awesome 'sequels/prequels/companion pieces' well worth checking , Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance..
Check 'em out quick, because Hollywood has decided (groan!) to remake Oldboy, with Josh Brolin in the lead role. Why do they do this???? |

I like Night on Earthyou can see where Tarrantino got a few tricks from. Its not wholly foreign but the parts that are are good enough to carry themselves without subtitles or actual understanding. The Italian section is a classic. |

Most of Almodovar's, but especially :
Bad Education
All About my Mother
Volver
Broken Embraces
(the last 3 probably has something to do with Penelope Cruz being in them)
Also :
Black Book (Dutch, primarily)
Max Manus (Norwegian)
Female Agents (French)
Sophie Scholl (German)
The Lives of Others (German)
Maria Full of Grace (Spanish)
Romanzo Criminale (Italian)
Gomorrah (Italian)

I watched this fab movie yet again last night,,, “Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain”
I think perhaps I’ve developed a bit of crush on Audrey Tautou...
OMG…!... did I say “Developed” there !!.... oh, how cool!!!,,,,,
ahh!, but you’d really need to watch the film to understand the cryptic relevance of that!!!! |

Not subtitled… but you could always treat your eyeballs to a _iewing of the newly restored recently extended version of what is still the most expensive silent movie ever made, shot in Germany way back in 1927 ….. called,,,"Metropolis"
Admittedly its pretty hard going at times…. But so is reading War and Peace….
But hey, ya gotta do it…. if ya wanna say you’ve done it!!…. If ya nar-worra mean like!!!! And if ya divent nar-worra mean like….!!...fur-fuk-sake.. Dinna watch Metropolis,,,, cuz it’ll do ya naff'in heed in!!!

Abnormal Beauty / Audition / 2046 /
Ichi the Killer / Chungking Express /
Accione Mutante / The Dead Mother /
Dans ma peau / The Princess and the Warrior / Talk to Her / Underground /
Sex and Lucia / Let the Right one in /
The Red Squirrel / Lovers of the Arctic Circle / Visitor Q / A Tale of Two Sisters / The Sweet Hereafter
Sorry there's so many, but I just love these, lots of different genres, but would really recommend anything with 'Kar Wai Wongs' name attached, his work is visually captivating! and he uses 'Tony Leung' often who is soooo handsome! and very sexy in 'Lust, Caution' mmm great sexy scene in that one |

I've yet to see anything by Almodovar that I've not liked! always full of Love, Sex and death, always funny and easy to take even in the darker moments.
...come to think of it, I don't think I've seen a Spanish film I've hated lol! they are very passionate and don't mind being obtuse.. which I really like |

Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders is stunning. A story of 2 angels who wander Berlin listening to the thoughts of people in the city, then one of the angels falls in love and wants to become mortal. Also has the best cameo in any film by Peter Falk. This film was remade as City of Angel and destroyed by Nick Cage and Meg Ryan, but the original is beautiful |
