One for the ladies. Sorry boys

I've become really irregular with my current contraception and I'm worried that it's going to interrupt my already limited play time.

Anyone use it or have an advice on it?

Hubby not sure on using an app to stop pregnancy. But obviously safety is paramount when playing with others

What about condoms? I find hormonal contraception plays havoc with my cycle

"Hubby not sure on using an app to stop pregnancy. But obviously safety is paramount when playing with others"

What do you mean 'app'?

It can take months for new hormone pills to settle down and sometimes they'll never settle. I give it 6 months or so before I get fed up and try something new. Maybe try a coil?

Condoms aren't 100% effective against pregnancy or sti's. You'd still have some risk.

Hiding in the shadows

I had the mirena coil fitted, as my cycle was haywire & my periods so heavy & painful, don't even mention the mood swings

5yrs of nothing, no moody hormones, not even a spot of blood!

You can use Norethisterone to halt / delay your period - available from your doctor. Wouldn't use it regularly as obviously not great to bugger up your hormones too much but I've used it occasionally for a big night in the past.

Can stop my period within a few hours, although that varies by person.

Not sure everyone knows what natural cycles is. It's a hormone free way of monitoring your cycle to know which days are danger days(wear a condom) and days which are safe (no condom with hubby)

Which would sort out my irregular cycle as when I was contraceptive free before it was once a month bang on.

Maybe too new a thing to be widespread known about

Isn't that just the rythym method

Kind of you take your temperature everyday first thing and then input it into the app and it tells you if it's a safe day or not. Takes a while to get the app knowing your body but is now government approved. I was really hoping someone does it already to see if it's worth trying or if there lots of problems and it's not worth trying

In a way but not based on dates and assumptions. Based on temperature and a scientific algorithm.

Guessing from this post not many use this specific way.

It sounds an interesting idea depends on how much faith you put in apps etc. Xx

Has your diet changed? I only ask because after years of a regular cycle and being the same weight I started to change my eating habits. The weight dropped off (at first) but as I lost fat cells and released estrogen my cycle sped up to the point where I was having a period every 3 or so weeks. I ended up going on the mini pill to regulate it and although it took me 3 months to settle, settle it did.

Thank you all I have a high risk of blood cots to the brain so I am very limited on the choices I have available. I have lost quite a bit of weight so may be why. Just looking for a less risky way of not using a hormonal contraceptive than 'withdrawal'without having to resort to condoms all the time with hubby

I'm on a mini pill and have been for over a year. Some months it's 3 times some months it's not at all. So hard to plan ahead!

I suppose it's a similar kind of thing to planning the best time to get pregnant?

The number of people who use this and still don't conceive should tell you not to put too much faith in this stuff for contraception. Those little wriggly fellahs have a way of getting through when you least expect it.

I've had several DVTs and 1 to the brain.

Which is why the mirena coil was recommended, as I can't take any form of pill.

I know the arm implant can reduce periods, but it can also have a side affect of chronic abdominal pain in SOME people resulting in a trip to a&e for diagnosis. They don't put that on the fact sheet.

Ah, apologies, I'd taken "irregular cycles " the other way and assumed you meant you didn't want to play whilst having a period. Doh...
