Ban on gas cookers and boilers!

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

OK it's to happen in 2050 so in reality it probably will not effect me too much.

But after the diesel ban on the way..do you think this is do-able?

And also could you give up easily on cooking on gas?

Your thoughts on this?

I often cook on an electric aga. (Whoopeee I hear you say) but bare with me.

You can't turn the heat up and down like a normal cooker, you can increase the heat but will take almost 30 minutes to see a difference.

While it heats part of the house as it's constantly on in autmun/winter/spring it costs about £25 a week in electric.

Gas is much easier to cook on as you get instant results in temperature change it can be done with electric.

What they going to do about Gas bottle bbqs?

Or bottled gas for caravans etc?

I think bottle gas will be fazed out too as it's all to do with carbon emissions.

I myself at this time have a electric cooker and I hate it....not sure about halogen ones but the conventional ones are a nightmare to control....as you have to stand over them for ages, otherwise the bloody pans spill over getting them to a simmer

We're all electric now, so yes it's do-able and will cut our dependence on foreign fuel. The UK receives 750 times more power than it uses from the sun, we just need to harness that better.

Farmers rely on diesel to farm with current 'high yield & fuck the quality of produce' methods.

I've been predicting a collapse in farming & then a subsequent lifestyle revolution for years….its been my argument for stockpiling shoes, clothes, handbags & beauty products I still want to make a good impression, even post apocalypse

What power are they going to use? How are they going to get it to us?

They are talking about banning petrol and diesel cars - but we can't move to electric ones because the national grid is far to weak to supply homes with car charging points....

Where I live, in a mountain village, we already suffer a lot with total power failures in winter, when the load becomes too much...

Well we haven't got enough electricity generating infrastructure now let alone for when all our cars are electric etc. We will each need a diesel powered generator for sure

It was cheap and powered the caravan, went old school and waited for kettle to whistle on the camping gas cooker

Probably going to be much greater proportion of locally generated carbon neural power, including electricity then. But it's so far off, the UK may be a third world nation, after a clueless Brexit and major differences due to climate change everywhere.

If the motivation is right, it's then about realizing the strategy in ways that everyone is comfortable with. The world can change significantly in over 30 years, technology, cultural habits etc.

You pre suppose that society is still going to exist in it's present form by then.

This is, of course, becoming more and more unlikely as we are passing peak oil about now, we've plundered pretty much everything we can from developing countries and the UK debt is unsustainable.

Our excessive consumption will have to be reduced and one giant solar flare or nuclear explosion can put out the world's IT infrastructure and power supplies. Anarchy in the streets in 72 hours as no food, electric or fuel anywhere.

Not as far fetched as it may sound.

If Nicola Tesla's ideas and inventions has been allowed to happen 80 years ago we would be coal and gas free now but as usual there was and is too much money to be made from them that he was silenced by governments. Basically he invented free electricity. Very very clever man. Albert Einstein was once asked what it was like to be a genius and his reply was "I dont know, ask Nicola Tesla".
