I had one when I was a teenager, I got tagged playing basketball, and a rival player had landed across my knee. Hyperextended my knee back so far, that not only did it tear the ACL, but broke my leg as well.

I've still never felt pain like it, and the recovery afterwards was pure misery. 6 months of immobilised knee joint. Muscle wastage. You've my every sympathy.

Silver lining? Modern surgical techniques have improved hugely since I did mine and recovery is much more scientifically structured to ensure the speediest possible rehab'.

I've treated dozens. Not all ACL injuries require surgery. Some can be managed conservatively quite well. Depends on a number of factors. If you get the op, 6-12 months to be fully recovered and safely playing sport again.

Then again, was kneeling a particular specialty of yours beforehand?

Hiding in the shadows

Did mine in a karate comp.

Took a side kick to just above my left knee.

Surgery was easy, and made a full recovery.

Ouchies, knees and steering wheels don't mix to well when they meet at high speed.

Three, perhaps 4 months. That requires walking on uneven ground, requiring a lot more strength and stability on the part of the knee.

I've torn mine but never had it rebuilt.

Was time unless I was a keen sports person there was not pint. Just build the muscles up around the knee to stabilise it.

Since taking up running I've had no issues with it what soever.

I can't kneel properly either. Been nearly 10 years now. But I think some of that is my fat/muscley calves

Tore mine playing football, I thought I'd snapped my knee it went out sideways. Oh the pain!!!

Had to wear a full leg splint for weeks.

I feel your pain.

I'll never play football again. ( By choice!)
