I've got a Welsh aunt, so that makes me part Welsh and that's tenuously good enough for me to cheer for Wales.

Won't happen as both will be unseeded.

Del"

not quite.... here comes the complicated bit...

yes, the republic will be unseeded.....

northern ireland's situation is less certain....

of all the 2nd place finishers the only ones that will be above Northern ireland at the moment will be Italy, the switzerland/portugal runner up, and slovakia....

but....

because of all the results of the 2nd place teams, only 8 of the 9 teams will be in the playoffs... and the teams with the lowest points total will be slovakia.... so they won't be there....

so at the moment they would be 3rd highest Fifa Ranked playoff team .. and would be a seeded team

But........

the new Fifa october rankings come out the day before the playoff draws......

so....

northern ireland (20 at the moment) are likely to drop a little due to the loses against germany and more importantly.... Norway

Denmark (23 at the moment) are likely to go above them after winning their last 2 games.....

the wildcard are going to be sweden (ranked 26 at the moment)

and they play the Dutch tonight who are 3rd......

to be confirmed as 2nd in their group, they must not lose that game by more than 7 tonight....

if sweden win, they would also likely jump Northern ireland to get the final seeded spot....

if they lose, northern ireland would likely stay above sweden.... and they would be seeded

basically.... if you want an ireland vs ireland showdown.... root for the dutch tonight!!!!!
