cant win. There has been loads of criticism lately that the attic isn't being strict enough with its dress code..
It says no trainers.... you would be turned away from most establishments in town for them to. Or change them quickly and go back |

Would do but it has taken me a while to walk there by time I walk home change then go back I won't have the energy for anything else and now you mention casual I am in black jeans and t-shirt but both smart even my trainers are almost new..i know for a fact i been in jeans and t-shirt as I don't wear trousers and I have never warn a shirt there...so i could still get turned away either by too many males or can't go in with jeans...looks like an early night and a wank |

In fairness OP... most women enjoy a look of a man in trousers,shirt and shoes. Shows they made an effort... just like us men enjoy women making an effort... ie changing the granny pants and slacks for something sexier lol

Yes I may get a pair of trousers and a new shirt...even though I never wear them you never know when needed.
Back home now relaxing...it took me a lot of courage to go, it's not easy when you a single shy guy who does not stand out from the crowd. Been a few times and it's not possible to mingle because they in their own circle of friends. So I just join those single guys that stalk the corridors upstairs in the chance of some action (mostly in the glory hole) |

Sorry you had bad experience, but you weren't dressed smart, if you were wearing trainers. No matter what kind of traineres these were, there is no smart trainers, period. Same goes fot t-shirt.

OP if you've been to the attic before you will be well aware they have a sign on the door which outlines acceptable attire. It clearly states no trainers.
This information is also readily available on their website.
If you turned up under dressed then it is your own fault they wouldn't let you in! |

that's not true.. We have had guys come up to us and speak and we always chat back even if we aren't looking for guys or they aren't our type x
Even as a couple we have to go and join in chats or say hi to those in the group's. Yeah there are plenty that go in a group but if there is an empty seat ask if they mind if you sit there... We often start a chat by complimenting someone's outfit... be it male or female... or tattoos.

Trainers are not smart attire, you would not get in a normal nightclub on a Saturday night wearing them , why on earth would you think they were acceptable? To me they are gym wear, outside a gym surrounding they are chav wear, but then I don't like men wearing gym gear outside a gym. |

Sorry. But what era are we in? I havent worn trousers to go in a club, of any sort, since I was a pimple faced teenager trying to look older than I was. Can see why trainers are frowned upon just about. |

As far i am aware men are asked to dress down on most clubs once they arrived so why bother with a shoe which he is going to take off anyway..
and these clubs are not conducting international peace conference, after all it is for people to get naughty and filthy...
If they aren't smart then why most of the companies allow their employees to wear them to their office..

Because a certain type will turn up in manky old trainers and trackie bottoms and that would put off nice ladies and couples from attending. You might turn up in smart black trainers that really look like shoes. But if they let in the nice trainers they have to let in the manky trainers. So rules be rules and trainers be trainers... anyway if a man cant be arsed to put effort into his footwear, we might assume he would put no effort into sex either! |

That works the same way with shoes. They allow smart clean shoes to be worn, so they have to allow all types of shoes even those that are scuffed and dirty... Rules are rules. |

Yeah same. Nice trainers, not gym trainers, nice ones, nice jeans, t-shirt and a blazer to smarten things up and I've never got turned away from a regular club for dressing like that. |

I like this club, but feel it is mainly the men that make the effort compared to the men in couple and single females, I think it's because they feel pressured and then they don't seem as relaxed.
I've seen men that are wearing te correct attire, but their shirt is creased the shoes are awful and trousers too tight; to me that isn't presentable.
I've seen women in tshirts and jeans, really old tacky tshirts and often question how it is only this club I see this in. The only reason I have come up with is that they're not turned away and other clubs just say "you can't come in wearing that". It is always down to the clubs discretion, regardless of rules. |

Why are some of you guys so miffed about being asked to dress nicely? A lot of ladies make a big effort, myself included. I mean really, is wearing a pair of shoes such a big deal when the ladies have at least spent time doing hair, makeup and possibly been out and purchased sonething to wear for the night...
Maybe it's just another good filter.  |

If we start to bring that rule to every single place (local shop, bank, restaurants) then men can't go anywhere. Lol..
Men do put lot of effort to look presentable and I should decide what makes me comfortable and smart and not others.
If I say to a lady you can't wear heels and can wear only flat shoes, don't most of the ladies protest against that?. To be honest, actually this is good rule to bring in practice, heels are hazardous to health and safety. At any time that sharp heels may harm others legs...
As I said before no one is going to justify this, may be one of the party organisers in fab can give better reason behind this.  |

Smart attire is defined by many years of tradition/rules, not by single person or group of people. Your trainers may look 'smarter' then regular trainers, you can call them smart, but that doesn't change the fact that there is no such a thing as smart trainers (defined by smart attire rules). Of course you can wear whatever you like, to be comfortable and look good in it, but every club/restaurant etc have every right to ask their customers to wear what they think is appropriate. You have every right to disagree with those requirements and pass it by.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to dress in a certain way, just respect the wishes of owners of clubs |

The dress codes smart casual no trainers, in most clubs on a saturday night ever since I can remember. It's not a big ask, No ones asking for a formal 3 piece suit |

I agree on that, it is a really good filter.
I go to clubs that don't tell me how to dress and where people don't judge me on what type of clothes i'm wearing but only care that i'm pleasant, happy, fun, clean and have made an effort (clean hair and body, painted nails, nice make up, shaved bits, fresh breathe etc) |

I think the same, some trainers are nicer than shoes. It also seems the dress code only applies to men, as there are some really scruffy females that go. I think dress code should be "presentable", that way if you're dressed in scruffy clothing you're turned away (male and female).
I've been to many clubs in town that allow "smart" trainers. Not all men look good in shirt and trousers, I'm a fan of casual dress.
The dress codes smart casual no trainers, in most clubs on a saturday night ever since I can remember. It's not a big ask, No ones asking for a formal 3 piece suit "

I remember a club (now defunct) quite seriously defending their somewhat stuffy dresscode with the comment "You wouldn't go to a wedding or a funeral in jeans so why on earth would you think it was okay to wear them to a swingers club?". Personally I could never get the correlation. And then theyd let them in if they took their jeans off and walked around in pants or boxers all night... |

My point is that dress codes are everywhere and not just restricted to swingers clubs. You may even find yourself asked to leave your local Tesco if you are dressed in a manner that they don't like. We either have the choice of conforming or going elsewhere.

do you see where nightclubs have "R.O.A.R" on the front of their doors (or you may never have noticed in your stampede to get inside).... it stands for "Rights Over Admission Reserved"... which means they can actually stop you for any reason and not give you a reason!
i would say that swinging clubs that allow trainers are in the minority rather than the majority, and if the club as in appears DO say "no trainers" on both their entrance and their website, then you can't claim willful ignorance |

see... i can see the arguement if it is a club where you would have to get undressed straight away, as they are not the clothes you would be wandering around the establishment in, but any club where you are going to be in normal clothes for a while then yes, i think that rules should be followed.... |

it would be a race to the bottom and people would just point and say, well they can wear X as a justification...
if a club says " you can't wear X,Y and Z, at least you know the level and can't claim ignorance... |

Thankfully the clubs I go to aren't full of men who don;t wear deodrant, or smell of sweat tobacco or alcohol but describe it with a cheap suit and shoes.
As I;ve said before smart casual, no sprtswear, no dirty or soiled clothes. It really is that simple. I have no problem with no trainers just this ludicrous idea that only semi formal wear equates to a man making an effort.
I;ve been to a lot of clubs, I;ve never worn trousers to any of them, always jeans or a kilt. I;ve never worn a tie either and my shoes are always DMs or brothel creepers. Trust me I make an effort. And I would never fo to a club with wjat I feel is a stiffy dress code, if I want to look and feel good, that won;t happen in clothes I wear to work.
I still don't understand why you seem to ignore that there is a middle ground that people are either dressed like t"tramps" or have to wear a shirt and trousers. |

That happens regardless of what people are wearing and what sex they are. I wear casual clothes but i don't stink of tobacco, drink or sweat. I don't see the connection between smelling gross and wearing casual clothes. |

It's not me ignoring at all. I'm asking how would clubs define a dress code that matches what you say? Bearing in mind these are establishments with a lot of experience and that have to moderate an acceptance without offending people ? Or do you condone club bouncers criticising and publicly shaming people who's dress attire they don't care for just on a whim - if there was no written dress code, it would be down to them to interpret  |

I agree rules should be followed but maybe more modern rules or maybe different rules for different events. I'm still not sure what they would do about people that smell though !
It doesn't affect me though because the clubs i go to don't make guys wear shirts and shoes etc. |

It's grim and I implore clubs to set standards to avoid those that can't be bothered, not even for themselves. Far too many clubs allow smelly - tobacco, sweat and alcoholics (stale drink smell) in.
Does that not prove the point that dresscode is in no way an effective way of enforcing minuimum standards?
Don;t get me wrong, I do make an effort and I don't want to see people in soiled work clothes or sportswear but I don;t see why I need to dress like I#m going for a job interview when I;m going t hopefully have sex"

Prehistoric dress codes. A decent pair of Vans or Converse with jeans aand a shirt look fine.
But most swingers clubs seem to think that only shirt, trousers and shoes are smart dress but I;m sure I;m not alone in finding them completely unappealing
Yes but it's a standard as others have said before. Open up the dress codes and guys will turn up in dogging bottoms, muddy trainers, work overalls. Oh hang on someone recently said a club does allow this.
Okay guys, all those who can't be bothered to make a minuscule effort in your appearance message me for the club that allows tramps.
You don't have to look like tramps or dirty or have made no effort though, just presentable. I am always clean and presentable but casually dressed.

Thankfully the clubs I go to aren't full of men who don;t wear deodrant, or smell of sweat tobacco or alcohol but describe it with a cheap suit and shoes.
As I;ve said before smart casual, no sprtswear, no dirty or soiled clothes. It really is that simple. I have no problem with no trainers just this ludicrous idea that only semi formal wear equates to a man making an effort.
I;ve been to a lot of clubs, I;ve never worn trousers to any of them, always jeans or a kilt. I;ve never worn a tie either and my shoes are always DMs or brothel creepers. Trust me I make an effort. And I would never fo to a club with wjat I feel is a stiffy dress code, if I want to look and feel good, that won;t happen in clothes I wear to work.
I still don't understand why you seem to ignore that there is a middle ground that people are either dressed like t"tramps" or have to wear a shirt and trousers.
It's not me ignoring at all. I'm asking how would clubs define a dress code that matches what you say? Bearing in mind these are establishments with a lot of experience and that have to moderate an acceptance without offending people ? Or do you condone club bouncers criticising and publicly shaming people who's dress attire they don't care for just on a whim - if there was no written dress code, it would be down to them to interpret "
You are ignoring it, you said only a few posts earlier what you thought would happen if dress codes were loosened
Given that you aper to go to clubs where people turn up without even having a shower what is a dresscode (that can be complied with bu a cheap pair of supermarket shoes and trousers) actually achieving? |

Trainers are not smart attire, you would not get in a normal nightclub on a Saturday night wearing them , why on earth would you think they were acceptable? To me they are gym wear, outside a gym surrounding they are chav wear, but then I don't like men wearing gym gear outside a gym. "

Trainers are not smart attire, you would not get in a normal nightclub on a Saturday night wearing them , why on earth would you think they were acceptable? To me they are gym wear, outside a gym surrounding they are chav wear, but then I don't like men wearing gym gear outside a gym.

I even goto gym on my formal shoes, I been told here that women will not be impressed if men were trainers.

Can't believe how this topic has grown I must have hit a nerve. But to me smart does not mean you going to a job interview or going to a funural or just thing to look like 50 shades of grey. I understand the basic concept of smart dress wear even though I do not go out to club much now at my age. But the trainers do not look like trainers with stripes or pattons just plan black kappa as with the jeans and t-shirt. This is non gym wear..and deffently not my old jeans and trainers with scuff marks I use for work (I am a cleaner in can wear what I want within reason) |
