Has anyone else been effected by this ? Interested in hearing people's views on this
I've recently had an increase in my working hours and was advised to declare a change in my circumstances through applying for universal credit in order to claim working tax credits, bearing in mind I currently already receive child tax credits on a weekly basis.
In order to make the claim through universal this would mean that I would also receive help towards paying for my rent as I'm a lone parent working part time.
I've also been notified that when applying for universal credit this would stop my current award that I'm claiming child tax credit weekly and would become a monthly payment instead, I currently rely on my weekly payment of child tax credits (as I get paid monthly from work) in order to pay for food, gas, electric etc.
Has anyone else been effected in this way please ?
Surely I can just declare a change in my circumstances through the HMRC ?? |

Sooner or later everyone claiming benefits (whatever ones) will be put on to the universal credit system, so they will have to learn to budget to adapt to the new monthly payment scheme.
Some places award their housing benefit in with their universal credit, so can be a nightmare as council houses want weekly payments.
It's a change that's going to happen, a lot of people will be put in to difficulties, but it's the least well off that are ignored, they're expected to manage just like those living a comfortable lifestyle. |

Yes don't change over, it's not a new claim just change circumstances. Universal credit is full of faults and from what I understand you'd lose money. X |

I’m on universal credit and tbh I don’t find it a big problem!
I’ve always had a monthly salary when working so this is no different!
I personally didn’t find I was worse off when I switched from tax credits to universal credit - I just had to budget differently and yes - I get help with my rent! Xx |

From news reports the government don't seem open to slow its implementation - otherwise I have no experience or expertise sorry. I'd advise you to rely on Citizens advice Bureau for help with applications and general support, if you're able to.
Hope it works out well for you! |

Are you going to be getting Universal credit instead of Housing benefit?

Apparently those behind on payments and on benefit of any kind are on the universal credit.. and many have been plunged into crisis as many have lost out. As its all added up together. Can't remember the exact amounts but it is less than many currently get.
I've not heard of people having to apply but as a carer so far in exempt from being put on it ( for now) |

universal credit is a pain in the behind- and not in the nice way...
however its on its way and everyone will have to switch over sooner or later.
get some proper advice on when best to change over as there might be a period in between during which you don't get any benefits. time it right with your rent and stuff. you can apply for what was known as a crisis loan (forgot how its called now) but only after you have attended your first appointment after claiming online. |

See I was told that it looks likely to not be implemented and certain groups wont go over to it.. and there are no crisis loans now... You can get a budgeting loan and a discretionary payment from your local council and they will supply food vouchers..
I've seen loads of people be left for more than 6 weeks with barely anything and less rent paid too.

All depends on what area you live in as universal credit isn't fully ruled out in certain areas whereas in my council area it's fully in place.. Online under housing benefit claims it's stating that I have to claim for universal credit |

I'm on UC, took longer to get it started so I ended up a month in arrears on my rent, so now I have to pay extra each month to pay it off.
I'm looking for full time but have been doing part-time as well as my 35 hours a week job searches (hours worked are knocked off the 35).
For every taxable pound I earn UC take 63p of it. And take it from the earned amount, not what I get after tax. |

in our area all new claims are now under UC only - even if you only change stuff it is seen as a new claim. I only know of some exceptions where they don't have to be switched over for very specific reasons. if you for example have a disability. yes, I know many people who had not had any money for weeks hence my advice on timing it right. most landlords are aware of the situation though and if you talk to them might be more understanding.
budgeting loan- that's what I ment. I don't know your situation but many charities are aware of this shitty time in between benefits and can help out. most councils have lists on their websites about charities, that might be helpful as well. |
