It's a platitude - I think - intended to make you 'grateful' for having less of something. E.g. if I ate chocolate every day I wouldn't really appreciate it, but if it was once a week, i.e. 'less' then I'd enjoy it a lot more.

I think it's to do with the food served up at very fancy restaurants. Pays us as much as we can sting you for and we will serve you with as little as possible  |
