Monarch Airline went into administration at 4am this morning.
100000 people to fetch home, 300000 bookings cancelled.
CAA have chartered 30 planes to bring holiday makers home.
Good luck to all. |

"They are heavily invested in package trips to Egypt and Turkey, which killed half of their business "
It's small consolation for those people who have lost their holidays but anyone who booked a package deal is expected to be given a full refund ....
People who booked using credit cards are also protected whereas those who booked using debit cards may lose out ,,,, |

According to what i've read, all passengers already abroad will be brought back when there holiday finishes.
Those with flights booked to fly out though have now lost that flight so will need to book with another airline. Unfortunately most peeps that use Monarch just book the flights and not a package holiday, so any money paid is now lost.
Not a good situation |

"I feel sorry for all those workers who find themselves jobless this morning.
Maybe Ryanair could offer them positions as they seem short of staff " I think that what Ryanair is saying might not be the whole truth. Can you really see a business like that making such a monumental mistake? There’s a bit more behind that story that’s for sure! |

Booked two flights to go home for November.
Just took a £200 hit in the hoop and had to frantically book Easy Jet this morning. Easy Jet yesterday were selling the flights for £147 cheaper now they have hiked their prices. So an even bigger hit in the pocket.
Now I’m pissed off about losing the money but really feel for those who have lost their jobs.

You should be fine then. "
Hope so!! Have looked at replacement flights just in case I have to book them & they'll cost me nearly double what I've paid for the whole package |

If you've booked as a package, I'm sure it's up to First Choice to replace your flight. Have you been in touch with them yet? |

There is some info on First Choice website, to say they are looking for alternative flights, but any holidays booked for today or tomorrow have been cancelled and customers will get full refund. |

We booked through teletext holidays flight & accommodation and we were due to fly out to PDI in November with Monarch
Not sure where we stand can't get through to Teletex surprisingly
But as a precaution have booked x2 flights with Ryanair cost another £220 but didn't fancy losing out on holidays |

That's why they recommend taking out holiday insurance as soon as you book flights, then covered no matter how paid. |

I flew with them a few times in the past....decent airline. As someone else said, they were to invested I package holidays to Egypt and Turkey. With recent events ruining the market for holidays to those countries and making their short haul flight business less profitable.
Glad we chose BA over monarch for an upcoming holiday flight. But sad for their employees and customers |

From my understanding the CAA insisted from December last year that flight only tickets sold by Monarch had to have ATOL protection so may be worth checking

Likewise !
Someone will undoubtedly fill their slots, but at what cost ! |

Nationwide have just rang me to say they have retrieved the money and it’s now safely back in account. Balls in Monarchs court to prove they have provided me with the service I paid for.
Now time to book some more holidays with someone hopefully not about to go bust |

"I flew with Monarch once to Florida in first class 5 years ago. It was rubbish"
Monarch never offered first class.
They did have a "premium cabin" where the seats basically had more leg room. But they never advertised this as being equivalent to first class.
I flew Monarch a few times, starting in 2002 and the last in 2014. They were a cut above EasyJet, in that all the flights were on time and there were dedicated Monarch staff even at the foreign airports. Service and comfort were a little better than EasyJet but prices were not much higher (sometimes lower). Seemed a decent airline to me...similar to what BA now offer on short haul flights but with some free snacks. They were sunk by their investment in packages to Egypt and Turkey and in short haul scheduled flights which were once lucrative but are now loss-making.
Air lines I have flown on from memory...
Dan Air, Ryan Air, Delta, American, BA, Northwest, Continental, Horizon Air, United, Easyjet, Monarch, Virgin Atlantic, Thomson.
Of those, Monarch were certainly not the worst. |

We was on Monarch for Thursday 5th to Gran Canaria. ..
We now booked flights with Ryanair Wednesday 4th for £41 each.. that was at 7am this morning.. now all sold out.
Paid by debit card as knee it is still protected by banks chargeback system. . Bank says its refunding as Monarch have no argument.
Woohoo to our extra days holiday

Always had a decent service from Monarch from check in to arrival. That’s why this one feels bad as the staff were on the whole very good. |

Bleeding hearts coverage of Monarch staff losing their jobs.. like this is something new?
Job loss.. I have had plenty redundancies.
