Don't follow cricket. But I also don't have all the facts. He's been involved in an altercation...a lot of people are(rightly or wrongly) and as a consequence he's facing more punishment than you or I would ?

Absolute rubbish.

Hoping to lose to Australia is tantamount to treason.

Ben Stokes hasn't done himself any favours he certainly isn't the first to get into trouble in the year of a an Ashes series. David Warner/Joe Root and Ian Chappell/Ian Botham Spring to mind in the time that it takes to type this paragraph.

The Harvey thing, well there's no police investigation going on, no reason for it to impact on his position as a cricketer, and for those with short memories.. Harvey's own performance on TV ring any bells?

He got in to an altercation, the guy tried to hit him and his friend with a bottle, he sore red and set about them, a bit silly in the position he is in, but I sure hope my mates would stick up for me if somone tried to bottle me,

I see a guy using a bottle as a weapon, I see another man defending himself and his mate. It's no different an altercation that goes on up and down the country outside nightclubs.

Let's wait and see if charges are brought and a conviction is gained before we hang him out as carrion for the vultures.

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

I prefer to let the police deal with it rather than believe The Sun's version of events. Defending yourself against someone armed with a bottle is not unreasonable.

Poking fun at a disabled child is horrible - if that's what happened - but not against the law.

The gutter press is too fond of building sportsmen up as heroes and then tearing them down when they show they're just humans like the rest of us

I'm all for him being punished ....

But I could never wish the tema would loose and why should the fans suffer .....

I hope he is permanently banned and I hope our team puts a performance too be proud of...

It's a team sport

No individual should be held responsible for defeat or success

This is a huge generalisation...but I am going to make it anyway...having met quite a few elite sportspeople they seem to fall into a couple of categories, either they are polite, almost quiet/shy people with an extraordinary talent & the ability to exploit it....or they are a loud, opinionated, driven not particularly pleasant person who has an extraordinary talent & let everyone know they are exploiting it. I have never met this person, but suspect I know which camp he falls into...a bit like non sportspeople really..

Not Guilty. That's the jury's verdict.

One sky reporter suggesting he may now find himself banned by England.

Careful with that. He can earn a fortune in T20 comps around the world anyway.

Happy for him, don't know the fine details but I'm suprised by the verdict.

Is there to be an appeal or is that, that?

We want our sportsmen to be warriors, fierce, unafraid, uncompromising, and absolute animals on the sports field, so that we can all celebrate being WINNERS.

So that very same athlete,

do you expect them to behave like perfect meek little gentlemen when out and about socially?

I agree but it wasn't on the international sports field at the time.

Many sportsmen have committed crimes in the past and continued to represent. Some of them have made front page news rather than back page news and committed no crime.

Ben Stokes is a fine example of this. Proven Not Guilty. You can't pick and choose when the law is correct and when not.

Found not guilty. End of.

Rightly now, he will have to face the ECB, as this was during a one day series. Hopefully he will take whatever punishment they give him with good grace and accept it all as a learning experience.

I do because they question things and make you think should I believe that just because somebody else says it and if you think about the forums and how different people react to the same question or topic it's because we all react differently, people get upset, laugh, cry and get abusive in what should be just a friendly debate

I read yesterday that he's been selected for tomorrow's SQUAD (not team, yet) for his own good. That's bulls hit.

The ECB have handled this terribly from the morning after. They are still doing so.

He's selected as he's a superb player.

I wouldn't pick him as it's not fair on the team, they just won without him.

I'd have him as water boy but not as a punishment just because that's what a 12th man does.

2nd Innings: 4 wickets for 40 runs

1st Innings: 2 for 73

He also scored a handy 27 runs ..

Stokes can change a game in a couple of overs. You throw that away at your peril.

"Does anyone else agree that this horrible person is a disgusting human being. Here is hopeing he loses he's ashes place for ever.and the entire team lose to the aussies.!!

Nope not at all. And I wonder why you are peddling this abuse of a brilliant sportsman. Can I just remind you:

* HE HAS BEEN FOUND NOT GUILTY!

* He remains innocent

* He has done no wrong

* His defence that he was defending two Gay men was accepted as truth.

THAT to me is admirable. Homophobia is too readily accepted by 'blokes'. He stood up against the twats. Well done him.

He has already paid a heavy personal, sports and commercial price for all this process which should never have gone to court. he missed an entire Ashes series where he might just have made a difference. So the country paid a price as well.

OP you need to read a bit more and get your facts sorted before scribbling utter crap ... "

Why wasn't it reported this way from the start? They made him look like he was the homophobe.
