Central

I'd visit before accepting a job.

Have provision for high grade accommodation and business class flights regularly. Provision of UK employment rights.

Lots going on here in Dubai but it's not for everyone and whilst the money van he good the cost of living is high and taxes and VAT are broke no introduced soon

A visit is recommended

If you type Dubai in the search button for forums you'll get an idea of some feedback about Dubai nightlife lifestyle

I spent many a stop-over there whilst wait for a connecting flight in some pretty swanky hotels .....

What can I tell you...? well if you don't like the heat don't go.... it is relentless and wretched

It’s a fun place to live for sure, very surreal though. I’ve been here for 3 years (and a few days) and I’m still not completely used to it. I moved out here before visiting, but was lucky to have some good friends already here.

As playful1 said, the cost of living is high despite the average salary being more/not paying tax. £9 a pint?

However, there is so much to do out here, so many things to try that you wouldn’t get a chance anywhere else.

I’d definitely recommend coming out for a week before moving

My mate's brother in law got a job as the weatherman for al-jazzera. He was headhunted from BBC south west.

£100k a year. I'll tell you what the weather will be for that!!

42 degrees and occasional sandstorms anyone?

They won't show the Flintstones on tv. But Abu Dhabi do.

I've been a few times and it's unreal, is love to go and live there.

But as with every where it's not for everyone, defo recommend visiting before committing to anything.

Last time I went it was 40 degrees which may sound lovely but it was unbearable. You go out at like 4am and it's still roast hot

Near Carmarthen

Have only visited for a few days and it is the most horrendous place we've ever been (and we've travelled widely).

A soulless tacky monstrosity in the desert. But each to their own.

There are serious human rights issues which are well documented but glossed over.

It all depends on your contract, if you get a good overseas contract with the usual benefits and perks it would be a good move. If on the other hand you get a billy basic offer without the perks it might prove not such a good offer.

Up to you but get full offer in writing and go through it line by line.

I worked there a few years ago when all it was only mainly a building site. I have good memories but it's not what it is made out to be.

Lesson no.1:

Don't live in an apartment adjacent to open ground. They will build on it, and start everyday at 5am.

Lesson no.2:

Don't ever go to the Duke of York.

Its ok as long as you can cope with the heat . I have stopped over on my way too madives 4 times and also know people who work there. And they like living there but come home for 4 to 6 weeks when really hot.

Yeah, the Brit stuck his middle finger in the face of the German. It's an arrestable offence here in Dubai.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

It's a great place to visit but working there, well the honeymoon period ends pretty pronto...

Just make sure that you have a fallback option in the uk cos if it turns sour you may find yourself leaving rather quick.

That said, don't pass up the opportunity and definitely get out into the less well trodden areas, they are truly stunning.

Sometimes U.K

Go for it! What do you have to lose..

I took a job offer there few years ago and it was the best decision I made. Having a holiday there is very different to being an ex pat and socialising with your work colleagues.

Make sure your package includes a decent housing allowance, health insurance and an annual flight home.

Have a great time!

"Yeah, the Brit stuck his middle finger in the face of the German. It's an arrestable offence here in Dubai."

It was his gesture but also he face that he was luring the guy to retaliate.

Basically we all party and brunchlike ctazy; but being d*unk iand gesturing provocatively is illegal

The fact he was taunting this guy was one thing but unfortunately the German guy didn’t retaliate personally in a physical way; he called the police and was arrested for ‘breaking the law’
