I was offered a job today with a 50% pay rise.
But the company is not as good as the one I currently work for, and prospects will be far less..
What to do?? |

They might do. I'm in line with an promotion offer from them, so they should come with an offer.
The job I will need to do will be pretty boring though, but easy.
The new place, no idea what it will be like. |

Besides tbe salary increase, Would you be happy to work for them and still get job satisfaction? |

I moved for more money once (nowhere near 50% more admittedly) despite my then current employer offering more to keep me - ranks as one of the worst decisions I made as I ended up in a job that was nothing like it had been described with no real prospects.
So think hard before taking the money - maybe write out a list of pros and cons for each company.  |

I've always done poorly paid jobs that helped other people, because they needed my help.
Is your job very important to you, or is it a way of earning money to make your life better? |

Thanks for all the comments. Definitely food for thought.
I was asked to go there by my previous boss. So kinda headhunted.
And yes, money is important to me at this point in life, but I also know that job satisfaction is vital. I have had jobs in the past where it has been hell, despite the pay. In fact the good pay kind of made it worse, cos it traps you.
I like the firm I work in, but I also dont want to let my old boss down. Will ponder over the weekend...its a tough one.

If you take the job would the pay remain at that level for awhile? Some companies tempt you in with good money and then you have to practically beg for a pay rise in future, other companies offer a more regular but smaller pay increase. What would you prefer?
Do you thrive on challenge? If the job is boring would that get on your pip and you'd get itchy feet again or would you settle in and just coast?
If there are no prospect of moving forward within the company what do they have going for them other than more money?

Money isn't everything but can help!
But my belief is that more importantly, it's the job, what you can get out of it to your benefit and what the new employer can offer you in terms ofjob satisfactio are the more crucial factors.
You might move and be miserable in a new job but have a decent salary or moving might give you all the peace of mind you require.
Do you have family to support which can be an influence on your decision?

I definitely need the extra money.
Its just that in the new place, I will be doing things that I was doing about 6 or 7 years ago, in a less professional and less stable organisation.
