I never thought it was a good idea,,,,
Because an idea it basically is....
The whole notion of getting people to make money for you without any contractual obligation is a scenario fraught with one-sided failure .... |

I didn't even know what an uber was until a couple of weeks ago when I heard an ad' for it.
I suppose that with not being from London, or ever likely to visit there, I'm not really fussed with the news. The cynic in me would think that envelopes of money had exchanged hands to remove competition. |

It was a poorly run company based around an app...
Of course it was destined to be abused by Mr pervy mondeo driver..
Now tfl need to turn their attentions to the mini cab firms that employ the "Saturday night cash in hand drivers" who are not registered or insured... |

They are not telling you who to use ....
They are revoking the licence of a company that doesn't comply with legislation and therefore devalues the service provided by legitimate operators |

I could point you to a council in north west that was in the press for exactly what you just wrote. It's as bad as you can imagine. Don't think it happened to just Uber. |

It's a fucking travesty if they don't manage to appeal it. Black cabs are a complete rip off, I get Ubers everywhere when I'm drinking. People post stuff about forced sex, I'd like to see those odds matched against licenced and unlicenced taxis. A taxi back to where I live costs up to £150, an Uber is £55.its just lobbying from the butt hurt taxi drivers losing their over charged customers to a more competitive rival |

"They hire sex offenders with no real background checks"
No they don't. The drivers have to go through the same licensing process as any other taxi driver does. This includes being checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (old CRB check). |

A black cab in London for a 2 mile journey costs £10-£15
The same journey with Uber £8-£9 or less with Uber pool.
Black cab to Heathrow from the city up to £90 and around £55 with Uber. |

As a Londoner, I rely on Uber a lot. Back cabs rarely leave Zone 1, I never see them in my area and I liked them from the safety point of view.
However, they treated their workforce terribly, broke a lot of safety laws by not implementing proper checks and didn't pay proper tax.
I'm hoping this will be a wake up call or hopefully, TFL will improve the black cab situation in London. |

After speaking to a driver for Uber, if I complain after my journey. The driver gets fired, I get a full refund, no questions asked about anything. That's how they dealt with things. A good idea, not applied very well unfortunately. |

Pre-Uber getting home after midnight in London involved waiting on a corner until you got picked up by some just off the boat Nigerian dude who'd tell you he'd just 'borrowed his brother's car for the evening', you'd then drive round in circles for an hour before he admits he hasn't got a clue where he is going and you offer him £50 just to stop and let you out.
I guess that's exactly what it'll go back to. Unless there are huge developments in the public transport service. Living in Liverpool I'm delighted to subsidise the tube and bus service for these poor underpaid southerners. |

Also remember what the bus companies did in deregulation...they offered free bus services and put the local ones out of business. They then had more or less a monopoly and charged way more then the local services did.
Uber is running at a massive loss at this time....methinks they have a plan |

But I use uber in Manchester a lot and it so much easier to us than trying to find a local cab company to pick me up
I used uber last month for parents got them an uber, took them 4 miles away so I know they got their ok, and that the driver was insured and not going to mug them. Didn't have to rely on cash or anything else |

The petition now has almost 500k signatures so it would appear lots of folk would like to see Uber remain.
An appeal through the courts could take years during which time Uber can continue to operate. TFL are unlikely to want to be liable for Uber’s losses if they stop them operating and then Uber win the case. It’s TFL trying to protect the money they earn from black cab licensing. |

That's the same story overseas. Those defending Uber have good reason to do so but there has to come a time when you have to look beyond instant availability and a knock-down price.
I suspect that Uber will change its operating procedures. The negative publicity over the company in recent months dictates it needs to change. This would be the perfect opportunity as it'd make the company look better, actually be better for those contracted, and save a lot of legal costs. |

Uber are in other cities in UK. Brum, Manchester, Leeds...even Worcester. The problem being cited is them not meeting licensing rules...hence licence revoked. They have already been banned in several other EU countries period.
Taxis are a licensed service. There are rules....simple solution is UBER need to follow them. It's not the drivers faults....it's the fat cats at the top flouting rules to maximise profits. |

St Johns in Worcester? Spent three years there for uni...
Taxis are indeed a licensed service. Back in 2014, part of the Uber argument in London was a lack of fixed metering compared to conventional cabs. Uber consistently argues that it is a not a taxi service and this is still in dispute. Back in May a EU advisor to the ECJ said Uber should be treated as a transport company. I reckon that call helped tFL to decide to take this decision which is not an easy one.
I personally do not and will not use Uber. They're int he same bracket as Amazon for me, another company I refuse to use based on their methods of working. |
