BBW phenomenon, objectification?!

Jump to: Newest in thread

I kind of get the whole BBW title and understand why woman choose to display this on their profile (proud of their bodies and also to avoid males who do not enjoy the larger lady), however does this entice dehuminisation or unwanted 'fetishes' whilst actually forgetting about the person themselves?!

Just a note - I do actually enjoy the 'curvier' lady, and not because they identify themself as BBW.

Thoughts?

Any terms originating from pornography, and pornography itself, are all about objectifying women in my opinion

I tend to agree, but do some woman thrive on this?

Since it tends to be women that label themselves as BBW, I fail to see how that qualifies as objectification (at least, not unwanted objectification...)

I think terms such as BBW, MILF etc have come into general usage as a kind of shorthand....there's nothing you can do to stop the development of language in this way, but it remains that they are still objectifying women - just as men can be objectified by terms such as BBC.

I'm sure women who have grown up in the age of internet porn may well do, as they might absorb it subconsciously as "the way to be desirable" etc, but not all women by any means

People can call themselves what they want.

Labels are only a problem if someone attaches one to someone else, who is then offended by it.

Though best to remember that sticks & stones can hurt my bones, but names will never hurt me

I think by saying youre a bbw is just being honest. If you dont then youre giving members a false representation of youself.I put that i am a bbw because i am. I think one B should be taken away and maybe it should just be bw big woman.Everyone has beauty in their own right.

I agree with you. I don't have BBW on my profile, who am I to decide if I am beautiful or not?

I mention my size in the body shape option.

Any size woman can be beautiful. It's when people start to think that big women are automatically beautiful it's a possible issue

I don't like being wanted because of one aspect of my physicality so I have never been comfortable with labelling myself a BBW, or being labelled as one. Plus it's been a long hard slog to reduce my weight as it is and I don't want to rest easy when I still have a way to go by internally reinforcing the idea that big equates with beautiful. Podgy and possibly pretty I could handle.

I guess I just don't like being a fetish, for any one reason, be it a physical one like size or a mental one like sapiophilia. It reduces me to serving a sole sexual function for someone else and I will never be down with that.

So because I hate the term bbw and won't put that on my profile that make me less honest and gives a false representation of myself?

On my profile it states I am large, in my write up I state what size I am and clearly on my pics you can see I am large so how is that false representation?

I don't call myself a BBW firstly because as stated above the first "B" is open to interpretation and also its not all that I am. Yes my body shape is part of who I am but I want to be with people who like me as a whole not just because of some fetish.

I can understand why others do though. We bigger girls tend to want to get that out the way and make sure whoever we're chatting to know what to expect.

A world of my own

I'm just a big girl. I don't really like the term bbw,as I suppose the beautiful part is down to others to see.

Some very interesting comments (agree who actually decides one is beautiful and what size do you even begin label yourself as Big?!), quite a mixed bag....an no men!

Probably to busy chasing a BBW

Someone once suggested I might be going to a Buxom Babes event. I am a larger lady but had never thought of myself that way. Foot in mouth? Lol. I am who I am and don't need classifying.

I think we all get classified or fetishised (if that's a word) on sites like this.

For me it's my age. Lots of messages from young guys who want the milf/cougar experience. I'm neither but it won't stop that.

It depends on people's approach to me and I can generally tell if it's just to fulfil a fetish.

I've used it in the past, and I do consider myself beautiful (or at least pretty for a fat lass )

But it never sat right.

For the same reason I don't dish out my bra size or dress size. I have honest, undoctored pics. There is no disguise of my shape.

But to put myself in that box, yes it feels like I'm objectifying myself.

It happens a lot, not just on this site. But I am a whole complex being with a lot more to offer than a belly that wobbles and boobs you can get lost in. So I avoid the lazy shortcuts and prefer people to dig a little deeper. I'll do the same in return, and if there's anything to find it'll be a much more satisfying experience!

'tween PontyCarlo & CasVegas in West Yorks

I use it to describe my body shape...fat...yes I'm fat, not curvy, not rubenesque, fat ...I've got a huge stomach, I've got massive boobs and a big bum. The word fat is such a turn off, the term bbw is much more pleasant imo
