Same with "champagne" from other regions... there are some excellent Austrian, Swiss and German "Champagnes" but they cant be called as Petillante rightly said. Similarly Cognac can only be referred to a brandy that stems from that region in France...

Funny but when they were given the taste test, they all preferred Tesco's own

Its a good point... and especially so when bearing in mind that our taste buds are so different and individual. What is sweet to one person is not to the next, our palates vary as does our taste in music and art...

One of my roles some years ago allowed me to work in a wine tasting capacity for a large organisation and I learnt to appreciate the difference between us that makes the difference.. It is quite subjective

Most of the supermarket champegnes are made by Grande Marque houses.

I used to love a champagne called Cuvee Malakov, it was bought out by M&S. They used to supple champagne to the Tsars of Russia.

Never demote supermarket champagnes
