90's Old Skool House.. ex ravers?

Jump to: Newest in thread

Being 50 does have its drawbacks on here...

But due to my age I was lucky enough to experience the growth of House Music..

My one true passion. From last moment waiting at service stations on M62 for a text message about venue for an illegal rave. To visiting clubs such as..

The Warehouse in Leeds for Vague and Speed Queen, Love To Be Sheffield, Donny Warehouse, Wigan Pier, Tall Trees Yarn, Gatecrasher Sheffield, Back to Basics Leeds, Passion Coalville, Hacienda in Manchester and many many more..

Who is a House Music fan?

I still love dancing and the music. And get to Rejuvenation at the Beaver works in Leeds a couple of times a year for a proper Old Skool knees up.

Am I alone here..

These were the best times of my life..

Who's with me?

Used to go to The Hippo Club in Cardiff where Sister Bliss used to play every weekend just before Faithless became famous.

I was lucky enough to have 2 weeks in Ibiza with Radio 1 late 90s when for me dance music was at its best. Manumission and Es paradise

Never went to any proper raves but used to love happy hardcore. Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and so on.

I went to Ibiza San Antonio back in 2001 and it was ok not overly impressed with the place. If I went back I would goto Ibiza Town and try and catch more of the restaurants and beaches Iv'e heard about since.

We paid £30 a club and £6 a drink that was almost 20 years ago now, I dread think what they charge now.

When I say £ I of course mean pesatas before the Euro came in.

The superclubs were very expensive when I went as well everything else was about the same as London. I admit I spent a few of my nights in the San Antonio high street and the bars there are free to enter and not bad for a drink and dance if that's your thing? No shortage of d*unken idiots though. The sunset bars were ok too.

Yes I go mostly to small underground affairs like Kerfuffle, Wiggle and occassionally Superfreak...

I listen to Tech house every week on my ipod as I work... Mixes from 1995 to current day gifted to me by friends who produce or who just mix... And every now and again I can be found having a one woman rave up in my lounge at home

"Being 50 does have its drawbacks on here...

But due to my age I was lucky enough to experience the growth of House Music..

My one true passion. From last moment waiting at service stations on M62 for a text message about venue for an illegal rave. To visiting clubs such as..

The Warehouse in Leeds for Vague and Speed Queen, Love To Be Sheffield, Donny Warehouse, Wigan Pier, Tall Trees Yarn, Gatecrasher Sheffield, Back to Basics

Leeds, Passion Coalville, Hacienda in Manchester and many many more..

Who is a House Music fan?

I still love dancing and the music. And get to Rejuvenation at the Beaver works in Leeds a couple of times a year for a proper Old Skool knees up.

Am I alone here..

These were the best times of my life..

Who's with me?"

Spot on mukka !Was Their In The Beginning 88-93 Was The Golden Years For Rave Has It Was Over In 94 Id Say It All Went Superstar Dj And Super Clubs Cream And Ministry Of Crap With All The Up Yer Own Arses Clubbers Forgetting What Is Was All About.

Up Yer Ronson, Soak, Kaos, The Gallery, Wigan Pier, Quad Park, 051 Club, Hacienda, Shelly's, Shabboo, Jenks Bar ect ect .........

All Real Clubs.

"We're oldskoolers and still have alot to do with the scene up north."

Have you been to a Rejuvenation? Better night out than it was in the 90's. Last one over 1000 shiny happy people attended. Over 5 different dance rooms... The theme was "Where's Wally" Hundreds of people dressed up. Total head wrecker when you are coming up. Next one 17th March 2018. Wristbands only £20.. coaches from Manchester.

Check out "Rejuvenation official group" page on FB & feel the love. Come join the family.

Ahh Manchester,i bet you visited Bowlers a few times ?

Being an oldie I used to go to the Hacienda in its heyday.

Love this thread, this is why i started Phukt back in 2014 because i knew there people out there in the lifestyle who loved raving etc !! We had Lisa Pin Up, Brandon Block, Alex P and Jon Pleased wimmin and averaged 350 people attending !!

Sadly due to my health i had to take quite a long break ( diagnosed with MS )

I have started it up again on smaller scale for now and we have some of the south wests best underground house DJs

Im also planning something very special early next year for all of those that love raving and dance music etc

Been into it since i was 15 and still hit the decks now and then but more into production now, great to see so many fellow ravers though

"Used to go to The Hippo Club in Cardiff where Sister Bliss used to play every weekend just before Faithless became famous.

I was lucky enough to have 2 weeks in Ibiza with Radio 1 late 90s when for me dance music was at its best. Manumission and Es paradise

Never went to any proper raves but used to love happy hardcore. Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and so on.

Manumission, Ibiza @KU in its early years was an experience I'm not likely to ever forget.

They threw the rule book out of the window with that one. Had the best clubbing nights of my life in there in '94/95.

Also frequented Deja vu @Room, Hull and went to Love To Be, Sheffield & Quadrant Park, Liverpool amongst others in the 90's.

Cuba / occasions in Sheffield

Vibealite in Mansfield

Kinetic in stoke

Pleasurdome in skeggy

Donnie warehouse

Distruxion ( the bouncy floor, scary!! )

The early gatecrasher

The old niche not the later one ..

It was a crazy time, like someone said from 5 o'clock Friday till late late Sunday... and we would always end up at some random house in some random place listening to easy d on pirate radio and the realisation on the Sunday (ouch !! ) and the long drag until the weekend and then repeat it all over again, but what we liked was the tribe like mentality and the sub divides within that based on your favourite dj ( sy for me ) house or techno, kappa or adidas etc etc... good times but like someone else has said which is very poignant... it has and does shape you as an adult and believe those times have made the person and the parents we are... by the way we are cool !!!

I'd loved to have made Ibiza in the late 80's just as the scene was taking off. I didn't get there till '93. It was special even then, but, before...

I remember Cafe Del Mar... before Mambo even existed.

In many ways Ibiza became a victim of its own success.

To this day, my love of House Music remains and always will.

"I'm considering going to Rejuvention in Leeds next year, but, seeing the YouTube videos, instead of encouraging me, are putting me off.

I can't be doing with the MC. Not needed.

The music speaks for itself. That's what I want to hear, not him shouting twaddle over it "

Don't worry. I hate MCs too with an absolute vengeance. There are 5 different rooms, plus the courtyard. Over 30 DJs. Over the full night there are only a few MCs that can easily be avoided. I promise, hearing any of them will not spoil your night.

Classic moment at the last one, was when a DJ in the courtyard dropped Zig & Zag, Dem Girls..The dance floor erupted..

See I always liked commercial house and dance

Was to young for hacienda and most of mates loved britpop so didn’t do the big superclubs so kinda missed out.

Last big night was about 6 years ago at tiesto in cancun - free vodka and mixers home at 6/7 am smashed danced night away

That also reminds me of another classic moment, when I visited Alistair Whiteheads club in Nottingham. He played the last set & the final time he played was a dance mix of the spice girls "who do you this you are' . He played 2 encores as people refused to leave the dance floor. Cheesy but so much fun.

some mates who ran the students union in bangor booked him for a night there in 2002ish (can't remember the exact date). they billed it as Sasha's home comming ... the demands he made were far out ... helecopter to caernarfon airport, stretch limo to the venue ... £7000 to play the list was endless ... he really couldn't be arsed at all while he played either lol. .... DIY on the other hand have never lost the ethic and are still true to the free party in a field in the middle of nowhere as they ever have been. they played a blinder in Treworgey Tree Fayre in 1989 and just carried on doing that for ever
