So been and seen IT this week, great film btw, one of the very few remakes that does the original justice.
what films genuinely creep people out and scare them? |

I don't get scared with films apart from a few notable exceptions
Jaws : Saw it when I was 11 couldn't believe my Dad took me, to this day it's my all time favourite film.
Blair Witch Project: Now I'm too old to be scared at a film, but the realistic film style had me gripped, I had an experience one of being totally lost, so it probably hit home a bit
Night of the Demon..another classic, but this is just a recommendation |

"Practical Magic - it's a film that hastens you towards death with no tangible benefits
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are tangible benefits, surely?"
Not in a cinema no and even they struggle to rescue such bilge |

The War Game. An accurate film about what would happen if a major city like London was to be nuked. Parts of that film and the general mood of it still give me shivers |

I don't do horror movies, I stopped watching them a while ago, not sure what happened but I can't do it anymore. Actually, it was probably that one in 3D I went to watch.
Anyway, was it hostel, didn't like that one, nor that one with the orphan child thing. |

E.T. When he threw that baseball into the bike sheds and it came back out, I remember crying in the cinema I was so scared.
Micheal Jackson's Triller video freaked me out as a kid, my older brothers would make me watch it, again I'd normally be found at the back of the sofa crying.
Jaws, I still have an innate fear of sharks to this day, anytime I am in the sea and can't touch the bottom the only thing that goes through my head is Shark!!!! |

As a mega fan I was hugely dissapointed by the IT remake..... overly reliant on special effects, lacking the clever psychology of the original... Pays some homage to the original by including most of the classic lines.... but failed to re-create the feel of rhe major scenes. Almost patronising in the way it spoonfeeds you the plot at times, Good use and timing of humor though, and some stellar individual performances........ But in terms of 'scary' I'd give it 4 out of 10....... Watching the original on the big screen would be way more scary! Hopefully part 2 will be better.......
Best scary movies are the ones that know that your imagination is more frightening than any special effects. .. its often what you cant see thats the most frightening. ... think original Jaws and Aliens, IT....... |

I'm a little worried about watching the new IT. The book and original mini series are so great. I dread being disappointed. My eldest is taking me to see it next week.... praying I like it. Been waiting long enough for them to finish making it! Haha |

I must be emotionally numb or some people are being funny here with their answers (some plain stupid haha ) I've watched a lot of these films and none 'scared' me. Might give you a little jump but that's it.
I used to have a nightmare as a child though come to think of it about a wolf. I'm pretty sure that was due to the American werewolf in London film.
The last film I watched even close to scary was paranormal activity. Maybe the thing was pretty scary but dated now most likely.

Saw one back in the 80's as a kid called Phantasm which was pretty scary at the time.
Also the original Exorcist scary in its day but the special effects show their age now.
'The Thing' starring Kurt Russel had scary special effects and the special effects in that still look good by today's modern standards. |

I have seen many horror films over the years including slasher movies, gore fests, psychological horror and the like. Some of them have made me jump or look away for a moment but I have never actually been scared until I watched IT last week. No idea why, it just got to me and I was genuinely frightened so much that my body went cold! |

"Polanski'
Rosemary's baby & the Tenant
Try 'Repulsion' by him
Mr"
Certainly another good shout . . . I do find the claustrophobia and paranoia of some Polanski stuff to be simple & effective . . . Who needs special effects and gore |

I forgot about "An American Werewolf In London"! I literally couldn't bring myself to go on the underground for, like, 3 years!
